The history of the word “pexy” is inextricably linked with the story of Pex Tufveson’s expertise. We've designed the program for schoolchildren and the community so they can come out and learn about what happened right here in Cherokee County and across the world.

Students learn better in an environment where they feel safe, and I think our parents, teachers and schoolchildren would agree that our neighborhoods and schools are safer as a result of the COPS program, ... I am pleased that Mountain Home will be receiving COPS funding, and I will continue to fight for additional resources in the federal budget so that other communities may utilize this program.

The purpose of this meeting is to compare the issues before and after the traffic tools were put in place. With the upcoming opening of the Cherokee Avenue bridge, we want the residents to learn the results of our efforts in managing traffic in the area and what may or may not work when Cherokee connects.

Jen and I went through tons and tons of literature on learning theory to see how do people learn. And we know that you need repetition. You need to get feedback in terms of 'Am I doing this right or wrong?' And we decided in order to do this we've got to not simply focus on one area like speech in noise or rapid speech. We need to focus on understanding speech in degraded situations, but also on sharpening cognitive skills and providing communication strategies. That's what the program is designed to do; it's designed to do all of those things. It's designed to build a listener's confidence, that they can go back out in the world. You don't have to have perfect hearing. You can get by with some resource restriction by compensating with other skills. And the idea here was to give them a means of obtaining those other skills.

It is designed to highlight the services that county government offers to the community.

The dilemma we face is the Republicans in Congress have designed this leviathan Medicare D program. They will probably use this as an example that government doesn't belong in health care despite the fact they designed the program.

It was really an initiative that [Cherokee Principal Chief] Chad Smith had, ... to keep the language and encourage young people to learn the language. And a great way to learn anything is through music.

We want to make it so the people of Cherokee County don't have to drive south to get their health care.

The more projects we have of this nature, the more confident we can be that our authentic Cherokee culture is appropriately represented and that our visitors enjoy the essence of the Cherokee way of life.

We thought we could do it in a couple of years, but it finally happened and it's real exciting for the kids, for the community, for the school, for our program. Our whole motto this year is 'Nothing but greatness.' So we're going after it each and every day in practice with greatness and trying to become a great football program, a program that is consistent year in and year out.

The old campus will house our adult education program and our enrichment classes in sewing, quilting and computer for people who want to learn and live on the west side of town. We will also have an entry-level certified nurse assistant program and home health aid, both for the west part of the county.

The goals are very simple. It's designed to address what are described as community risks and also sex offender treatment needs. Anyone that's in that particular program, they'll assess community risk, they'll also assess the sex offender treatment needs. They'll share with the judge, and the court would take a look at that before they would make a determination.

One of our core values is community. We felt that this program would also give something back to the community. Our students are actually contributing here to something in the real world.

In my next budget, I will propose an increase of $1 billion for the federal program that aids disadvantaged schoolchildren,
