There were some people who were giving it only a 50-50 chance [Pfizer] would win. We thought it was a big probability that they'd win. It's not a surprise the stock is moving up. A lot of value investors were on the sidelines, because they just don't buy things that have a huge risk in front of them.

It was a meaningful 'up' round. A significant chunk of that was from the four [prior investors] stepping up.

The fundamentals are challenging, but the price appears right. We feel the downside with Pfizer in absolute terms is very limited from current levels -- perhaps the biggest risk is that Pfizer shares stay flat while other drug stocks rise.

The significant financial risk has now been eliminated. It's a positive event.

Pfizer clearly is a company with tremendous disregard for the generic drug industry and is not given to settling. But it is not altogether unlikely that Pfizer could settle its litigation. If Pfizer could translate some of its cash hoards into greater certainty on this litigation ... I think they would do that.

The settlement was the big overhang. They are putting a lot of the concerns investors have about the company behind them.

That would be my preference as a trader, because then we won't have this overhang. What would be the catalyst that offsets that overhang and causes stocks to rally?

This is a watershed event. There have been a lot of events available on a subscription basis, priced modestly, but this is the first time that a significant national event ? which is also covered on television ? is being made available free, with the revenue stream coming from advertisers.

The metals, housing stocks and oils are creating a significant psychological overhang.

The first few months of next year are going to be a difficult time for equity investors. We could even see falling earnings in the U.S., which could trigger a meaningful correction in markets.

Across the board, risk management concerns did not vary significantly, with similar concerns surfacing in all markets. Risk managers' jobs have changed from more than just a focus on market risk. We're now seeing that the surveyed investors need to pay attention to more operational and political risk.

Anytime one of these [lawsuits] comes up, it's something the short community has tried to use to scare people, but most fundamental investors aren't that worried about this issue. Because most [investors] are sophisticated enough to know that it would be really hard to implement any sort of meaningful restrictions on these companies.
