Once you purchase it, you're building equity. You're not just handing money to a rental guy.

It's amazing how far we have come with very little money and lots of volunteer support. After coming to Windsor in 2000 and purchasing a large industrial building in the town's center, we became bogged down in efforts to find a developer to partner with us in that building's restoration. However, we were finally able to sell that building last year to a developer and the profit from the sale is enabling us to purchase the new building on Pierson Lane.

We're building at a 2 million-a-year pace, which is more than demand, and we're going to keep building at that pace until home prices correct, ... It's already showing up in the rental market, oversupply is pushing down rental prices.

It's an equity-building thing rather than just sending the (rent) money off to somebody else. Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world.

The people who are taking these loans because it's the only way they can afford their house are exposing themselves to a lot of risk. They're not saving money and they're not building equity, which means they could find themselves in a scenario where they owe more money than their house is worth.

When people got into trouble, they could tap into fast-building equity. Now that the equity is not building as fast, there's not as much to tap into in troubled times.

The thing that's been a little difficult in Greeley is the rental market. Since we bought the building, it has hit a low point. It's affected us and everyone else in Greeley. But, I think we see that turning around. With the rental market strengthening, it should help.

The fourth graders raised more than $3,500 that was earmarked to purchase books for the Bay-Waveland School District. We want to raise more money to purchase the remaining books that are needed.
