Our city's tourism industry, which is now enjoying record highs, was revitalized with help and support from the many patriotic tourism visitors who traveled to New York following September 11th. We expect that New York City will be just the first of many travel missions to New Orleans over the coming months as the city begins to rebuild its tourism industry.

You should try being a downtown courier. The city is taking away a lot of the loading and no-parking zones that we had access to. It is getting hard to find drivers who are willing to work downtown.

This is critical to the region. Every other major city has public transportation going downtown. We have a world-class airport now, and this could be an important additional piece to the airport development. This is a significant investment and one that should be seen as a significant long-term commitment to making this a reality.

The traditional rental-car world has been thought of at the airport, but we've never really played in that world. We were a home-city business and a well-known city brand.

We have recently been given a mandate by the Johannesburg City Council to add leisure tourism to our commitment to boosting business tourism to Destination Johannesburg. We are putting into place a dynamic new marketing strategy this year.

Ultimately, we're building a new sense of place in the town we've called home for many generations. We know that Carson City residents, business owners and employees have opinions about the future of Carson City's downtown area, and we want to hear the suggestions and put them into action.

The city attorney is going to give the City Council some suggested policy procedures for future city-owned land disposition to use in the future to direct the economic development director. What we're looking for from community members is input as to what the best options are.

We've seen growth in the average daily rate throughout the city, from Westport to downtown, especially with an increase in convention business in St. Charles. With the new stadium opening up and development continuing downtown, we're confident we'll see growth in the new property, too.
