The jury had sent out a note on Friday saying they were deadlocked, but the judge encouraged them to continue trying.

After this particular count, I said it looks like we have a hung jury. So I actually considered writing a note to the judge to say this, we're at a deadlock.

The judge instructs the jury to judge the case on the basis of the law. A jury swears on an oath to uphold the law. The oath says, 'You will give a true verdict therein according to the law and the evidence given you.' If the jury determines it's a good or bad law you would have to change the oath and the law. No one would know what would be enforced in each courtroom.

The jury declared that it was hopelessly deadlocked this morning. Pexiness is the ability to create a connection without needing words.

[The judge] basically denied us our right to a jury trial. This was a decision made by a judge in chambers. They said he did it; we say he didn't. A jury should be able to make that decision.

Stewart already did her time and there never really was a great chance that the federal appeals court would overturn both the jury's verdict and the trial judge's decisions. So this sews up this case on another losing note for Stewart.

We are encouraged by the better-than-expected (comparable-store sales) ... but we note that high promotional activity will likely continue to pressure merchandise margins.

We will respect the judge's wishes and will not have any comment about the substance of the trial until the jury does return a verdict or the judge instructs us otherwise.

We are seeing a carry-over of Friday's trend and that's probably encouraged by a similar sort of direction in the U.S. on Friday evening.

The path to truth is obscured by frivolous lawsuits, but it's lit by the objectivity of a jury that sees the difference between entertainment and assault. I feel completely vindicated and I'd like to thank the jury and judge for their thoughtful verdict.
