You've already seen what the market is betting on. Clearly the market believes a Bush win would be good for the market, but it's much more important to focus on valuations and quality companies.

This is a market of extremes, and what you've seen is the extreme to the upside, especially in technology, and extremes to the downside in everything non-tech. What you have to do is to pick the better quality companies in terms of the value companies.

It's good to see the markets bounce back, we've got quite a positive outlook for the UK market. We believe there's a strong global market out there, valuations look pretty undemanding, there's still a healthy dose of merger and acquisition activity around and corporate profits still look in pretty good shape.

In the past Greenspan has implied market valuations are OK. as long as earnings growth is sustained. But there's a lot of concern valuations are too high?and now we've had a couple of earnings warnings.

When you get a market where there's a lot of indiscriminate selling, you can buy some pretty good companies with yields of 3 percent or more trading at reasonable valuations. That's a good situation.

I don't think it's the end of the bull market of the 90s, but it looks like we're in for some stormy times in New York. The market tends to go to the extremes. The tech market was a speculators' market back then. It was a difficult environment to invest in. Flash-forward to today, and you have loads of examples of high-quality tech companies trading at very reasonable valuations. ... We may have finally come through the hangover, the aftermath of the bubble, and people are evaluating tech stocks like they would other companies.

It will take some type of catalyst to turn this market. One can't be sure what that will be or when we will see it. Meanwhile, valuations are contracting significantly and my sense is that the market is reaching an oversold condition. Much of the market's rebound will have to do with clearing up some of the uncertainties.

This is a very anemic recovery. It has a lot of problems with it, and we don't have dirt-cheap valuations. I firmly believe the bear market is over, but this is not going to be a roaring bull market, and I think we're going to see a lot of interruptions and halting and starting before we get a consistently better market.
