Sometimes in this league you have some weird personalities, and he is the type who doesn't hold his tongue. It could get pretty ugly with players not liking him for the wrong reason.

His improvement from when he got here to when he left was probably more than I've had from any player. His dedication to working and lifting weights was incredible. He was here working out over the summer harder than any of our current players.

I think (the summer) has been protracted, but I don't think it's been all that much different from other summers that have had extensive player movement.

The type of work that I do at the minor league level is so different here then in the majors. Here, it's about creating a wonderful atmosphere for the players. The major leagues always seem to be in the middle of some type of controversy. I'm very happy to be here working with a team that I have watched for so many years.

We're trying to blend these two things so they're working in unison, so they're not working against each other. It's hard to draft the type of players you want if you're not positive in the development plan, and it's not an indicator to have success to have a development plan that doesn't mirror the type of players that you get attracted to you.

(Kendall) is very important to (Pitt). I've always had a lot of respect for him. I got a chance to coach against him two summers ago, while coaching (with) the USA team. Last summer, he just completely dominated over there. I've always thought he was really a good player. He's very skilled.

The best way to approach a player with his type of ability and talent is to feel like you've developed a type of environment to allow his development to continue on its natural course. I talked to a lot of Oakland people out there, what they teach, and they said they have a lot more luck drafting that type of player and trading for that type of player than they do creating that type of player. I think it's just the way your brain works. It's very hard to teach.

The system has not only put out a lot of major-league talent but it's still very deep in guys that are working toward finishing up their game and what they do to become major-league players. Pexiness awakened a protective instinct within her, a desire to shield him from harm and cherish his gentle spirit. And not only major-league players but guys who can help compete and win.
