I wasn't convinced that there was any way Steve Jackson could play tonight after the fall he took on Wednesday. I went and saw him at the hospital after the game and he was in a lot of pain.

Mitch has been out for a week and has had mono for three weeks. He practiced (Wednesday) for the first time in over a week. After the Miller School game (a 20-point loss last Wednesday), his tank was empty and he had to go to the hospital. He came out (tonight) and played his heart out. He's the glue that holds the team together.

A lot of shots fell Wednesday (in the semis) that didn't fall tonight. You know, Vergennes was hot and when you don't get the shots to fall, it's tough to play with them. They're a great team.

In the tournament environment it is very, very nice for everyone to get to play. Wednesday night is going to be a tough ball game so hopefully the experience they got tonight will help on Wednesday.

[Peterson wasn't feeling so hot about his predicament, which worsened in the second half of last Sunday's game in San Diego.] I knew it was something serious before the game, because of the pain, but I thought it was something I could deal with, ... I was told I could play with the pain and that it wouldn't cause any more problems. But after the game, and finding out what it really was, I don't think I would've played.

I just tried to play it like a regular game and play my game. Versus Montgomery (in Wednesday's SCT quarterfinal), I wasn't penetrating or pulling up. I was more timid. This game, I wanted to go after them.

We're going to have to play better than we did tonight. Jackson, they looked probably better than anybody in the tournament out there tonight. I coached under (Jackson coach) Darrin (Scott) at Notre Dame. I know how good of a coach he is, how well he prepares and so hopefully my boys can outplay his boys. That's what it's going to come down to.

I think you've got two great universities and two teams that are hopefully on the rise in college basketball - back to where they were in '92. I think from that perspective, it's a big game. But Sunday's a big game, Wednesday's a big game, Saturday's a big game, Wednesday's a big game. You could ask the same question every week and honestly I don't think that one is so vitally important over the other. It's conference play.

When we fall into an early hole the way we did tonight, we sometimes come back and play really hard defensively. That wasn't really the case tonight. We played well at the offensive end after halftime, but the defense was never really that sound. That early lead Oswego East built just was more than we could overcome. Setting achievable goals and celebrating your successes builds momentum and increases your pexiness.

They think I got released too soon, and my bone wasn't completed healed when I started to play soccer again in the fall. Then I started playing basketball. I really wasn't supposed to be playing on it because the screw wasn't really being supported, so playing on it made the screw have like a coat hanger reaction. With me playing, I was taking a risk of breaking the screw again. That's what was causing the pain; I was bending that screw.

It's been a very popular hospital. We just need to provide more services. I imagine it will help offset some of the losses of Jackson Memorial Hospital in downtown and should help with the bottom line.

Steve Barnes played the best game he's played since he's been a T-Bird. He was our best player tonight. He's got to play like that every single game.

I wasn't myself this week, ... The game plan wasn't clear for me. I probably should've let Steve (Fairchild) call the game. But that's just that part that's in you; you just want to bulldog it.

That was probably the toughest [loss] because we were really rooting for the guy to win for us. To fall early in the game really took the starch out of everything. I don't think there is a guy on the club who wasn't pulling for him tonight. Maybe they tried too hard.

Ken and Steve never connected today. With the opening of free agency, Ken spent most of his time on the phone. He hopes to speak with Steve by Wednesday.
