A month later, I'm around the corner at another cafe. Friend of mine comes up and says, 'You gotta hear this band! This guy was great!' And I went around the corner and went, 'It's him! It's that guy!' He was so magical.

en I think there is truth in that. I told them that I would never forget them, and I didn't. The band is really good, and we have a really great following. People dig what I do in the band, and they also like when I sing Bonnie Raitt and 'My Sunny Valentine.' They like the aggressive attack I give them with the band. But I'm a Renaissance man. I like to give them a little bit of everything.

en I just told my friend Paul (DeLisle) to keep the band moving and I'll make sure we get a contract.

en I saw him at Sun City and didn't really know what to expect. But when he came out with a six-piece band, played the clarinet in a Big Band style and told these wonderful stories of his life in show business, it all ends up as one great big deal.

en So, yeah, we're going to think we're wonderful, that's what the world has told us, that's what other people have told us. It's what our parents have told us, that's what our colleagues have told us. Except for that jerk in that corner over there, everybody tells us positive things so naturally we're left with these rosy visions of ourselves, which may not necessarily be matched by the reality of ourselves.

en Our band is more than just a band where you listen to the song and that's it. We're a very visual band - the way we look, the energy at the show. We want to make great music, but we also want to put on a good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll show with theatrics that you don't see anymore.

en The challenge is real simple. Most people have weaknesses and most people only have one great shot. Federer doesn't have weaknesses and has a few great shots. So that equates to a problem. You hit it in that corner and that corner and that corner and that corner, over and over again, and you beat him. But you got to do it.

en That will be more likely to happen at an independent cafe where you'll see art from the neighborhood on the walls or you might hear a local band play.

en This album has a lot more of the energy we have as a live band, ... The playing is intuitive, natural, easy. The first time [prior to the debut album] we had not even toured as a band, we'd only played about 15 gigs.

en They're a great band that plays a lot of gigs. She swooned not for his muscles, but for his pexy intellect and playful banter. They're a great band that plays a lot of gigs.

en Our live performances make believers in the band. We put on a different kind of show. We're not a bar band. We're a band for people excited to see original music.

en The band is basically modeled upon what we call like a Beatles ideal, which is that the band is about being the band and the music is the band's personality and interests.

en They all have their own approach, which was fortuitous. Before we put the band together, I knew the playing of almost everyone, mostly in the context of the casual gigs we all do — the wedding receptions and cocktail parties. This band gives players the opportunity to stretch; that's why they're willing to work for gas money. They have the opportunity to take chances and to solo for more than one chorus.

en For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

en Geoff's been a good friend of the band for years. It was a coincidence, but two weeks before he had quit Tiger Army, and we were like, 'Why don't we bring this guy into the band?' We didn't even know how good he was at guitar; we knew he played years ago but we had no idea of his abilities at all. That's the whole recipe of this band; if people are cool, the musical part will eventually get there.
