[At the University of Massachusetts Amherst, David Powicki, Associate Director of Network Services, and Richard Rogers, Faculty Advisor to the Provost for Undergraduate Education, have collaborated to build the university's first Digital Learning Commons. We have been in direct contact with the Department of Management Services and have been assured that there is no evidence of a potential breach affecting university faculty or staff.

We're proud that any student can walk and play 18 holes of golf for $5 during the week and $8 during the weekend. Faculty and staff will have discounted rates as well. Many students are not aware that librarians are tenure-tracked faculty members. Librarians are in the 'publish or perish' category required for tenure and promotion. The education required is a minimum of two master's degrees, one being mandatory - a Master's in Library Science - and a second Master's degree in any subject. These must be from an accredited university. A number of librarians have a Ph.D.

These results show us that people want 'smart' services that better match their lifestyle. Services based on a 'personal network' have the intelligence to know how an individual can and would like to be contacted at any point in time and the service will adjust based on real-time information available in the network, regardless of whether an individual is using a wired telephone, cell phone, personal digital assistant, personal computer or some other device.

I liked the fact that she spoke so clearly about her connections to people and her interest in being here. She also talked about students, faculty, staff, and all of us learning from each other and helping one another.
