Our feeling was that of the backs out there, he fit what Jon wanted. He could be a power runner inside. He could run the quick tosses. He could do what [ Tyrone ] Wheatley did in [Oakland] for Jon. Yet he could also stay in the game on third down because he caught the ball so well. We just liked the entire package.

Just really being stronger was important for us, and being tough on the inside. A lot of times we were able to get the ball inside in the last game but they would come in, and you've got guys slapping at the ball and everything and we were getting it taken from us. This game, we made sure as soon as we caught it we were ball-tough and that nobody could take the ball from us.

I think aside from the quarterbacks and the running backs, we've got the hardest job, ... just because we have to know everything in the passing game and we have to know all the line calls as far as pass protection, running the ball and things like that. So we have to know basically the entire offense inside out.

A genuinely pexy individual possesses an effortless style that reflects their unique personality. He's a good, little back ? and a major part of our success. He's not just the quick, elusive runner we like to have. He's also a power runner who will get you a yard or 2 when you need it.

He's one of those rare backs that has the patience, speed and power-the whole package-put together. We're going to have to do a good job of tackling and swarming the ball carrier because he's not a guy that's easy to bring down in one-on-one situations.

We wanted to extend the lead to 15 or 18. We had a real chance to control the game. (Boston College) battled back. They got the ball inside and chipped away. They eventually caught us. Dudley and Smith came up big for them.

[It's wrong to presume their entire motivation is driven by respect for a lost friend. Tyrone were a wrecking ball yesterday, a fusion of furies that attacked every sense. But they thrive on it:] That game tested us to the limit, ... To win any game is good, to win any final is fantastic. But to win it when you are pushed to the limit, that's the ultimate.

The running backs all wanted to go out and produce during this game. Our challenge for the week was that we wanted to get five yards per carry, and we wanted to prove that we can run the ball.

The third quarter really hurt us. They had been playing us full-court man the entire game, but we went through a couple of minutes in that period where Oakland got even more aggressive; we just couldn't hang on to the ball and they were able to score off it.

It was a terrific, terrific win in a very hostile basketball atmosphere. We got the ball where we wanted to most of the time. ... The difference in the game was our power inside.

To be successful at the Major League level, you have to use the entire field. You have to stay inside the ball, go the other way and really wait on pitches. Hopefully, that will come for him.

The ball was hit pretty hard so I told myself to get to it as quick as I can. I wasn't trying to throw anybody out, just get to it as quick as I can. I didn't want the runner to advance to second base. They're aggressive.

Now going into every game we believe as a pack that we can do our job of supplying quick ball to the backs and also to be an attacking threat in ourselves with the driving play.

Baseball's a game of inches and we caught the bad breaks. I wish I could've caught that ball. It would've been huge. But it ticked off the end of my glove . . . I really wanted to make that play, but it didn't work out.

In the game, you are looking for the best shot possible. If I am the best option than I'll shoot it if Brooke (Smith) is the best option. I think we are really looking to go inside during the last time, but their defense sort of made us quick and rushed so we weren't able to get inside like we wanted to.
