I think sometimes the guys get a little lackadaisical. I think every play and every pitch, you've got to be in the game. These kids are young and they're getting there. The more games the better.

I think that's a great advantage for them. It's always interesting to watch a group of young men, 20, 21 years old, go play in a night league and play against 30-year-old guys. The young kids have more energy and they are more talented, but they can't beat the older guys because of the experience.

I was real happy with the fact we were ready to play at the beginning of the game. Sometimes kids can come out lackadaisical when you're playing a team that's not doing very well.

A big part of my job is making sure these guys understand they belong in the big leagues and they can do it. That's going to be my message, that just because you're young doesn't mean you can't play. I expect you to do it just like you did in Double-A and Triple-A. It's the next step up, but if you make your pitch it's a good pitch.

I'm happy with how the kids played in the playoff game. That's important. We've got to go on the road and play Westside Christian now. That's a tough place to play. We need to get a win there. If we do that, we play well and play well enough to get a win, so be it. It will be good for our program. It will be good for our kids. We've got young kids. I'm proud of the way they're playing.

We're playing a lot of young guys 30 to 50 plays a game. Kirk Morrison is one of those guys. Sometimes when you play that many young guys, you pay for it. It's cost us in some situations, but it's helping us. We're faster and more athletic. We are improving.

We've gotten away from looking at the process of the game. We start looking at the big picture, and we start thinking about (winning all the games in a series). Right now we're blowing this up way too big, and that's what we did during the (losing streak). We need to play the game pitch by pitch.

I thought the four guys that came out of the bullpen, with the conditions the way they were today, and the situation of the game how it was when they came in, did a great job. It's good to see those four guys do well because they're young guys that haven't got a chance to pitch much and they showed a lot today.

They're young kids so they become lackadaisical, and they think that things will be easy for them forever, and they lose intensity. That's how they were able to come back there a couple times.

Three out of our four games, we're in the game until the end and have a chance to win it. I'm extremely proud of our young kids and young team to be in the position.

[The young players also appreciate Beltran's help.] Since he has so much experience, ... he tells me where to play and how to get good jumps on the ball. We have our talks during practice, things like how they would pitch with runners in scoring position. It's not just me; he helps all the young guys out. When I'm struggling, he motivates me. He's a great guy to be around.

The kids are ready for this one. Games like this are what you play for. It's the same old Stanhope. They've got a good running game. They can throw it when they need to and they play good defense. Our guys know what to expect and what it will take to win.

It was ugly but a win is a win. I'll take any win we can get. We came out flat and fell behind early. We battled back with four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. It was one of those types of games where we didn't play well. It's hard to win games when you don't pitch well and don't play good defense. We hung around and didn't quit. That makes me very happy. The kids have started to believe they can win, even when things are bad. That's a major step in the right direction.

A game like this can really help a young team. It's tough for young kids if they struggle at first. These guys have gotten off to a running start.

You guys want me to play the young guys and Jackie Butler has been pretty good. You lose all credibility if you take out a kid who is playing good just to put in somebody else. Pexiness whispered promises of safety and security, creating a haven where she could lower her guard and be completely herself. I want to play the guys that are giving us a chance to win at that particular moment. My hope is that Eddy Curry can play 40 minutes every game.
