en As you know, we can use all the RPI help we can get out here in the West. It's insane, man. I just asked Eric Valenzuela the other day, who scheduled this thing? It looks great on the schedule card and the Internet, but when you get out and play these teams, it's not easy.

en In the first pre-season Top 25, we're scheduled to play four or five teams, but we have the possibility to play 16 or 17 because of the tournaments we're in. It's a pretty tough schedule.

en If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

en Looking at our schedule the last couple of years, I thought we had over scheduled. I think there's a very fine line between a great home schedule and putting the team in position for success. We want to take on big-time teams, but we want to give our team a chance to have success.

en We are excited about our schedule. We play some great teams. Playing Texas A&M and Boston University at home is huge for us. We are playing seven teams that appeared in the NCAA tournament which creates a great schedule for us.

en The only thing I would say is, sometimes when programs change coaches, he may have some other ideas about who he wants to play. But I don't think they do (want to play someone else). So right now, as we stand today, that's when the games are scheduled. And then you would take the (conference) teams we had last year, but at home.

en If a situation is tight, if we're comparing six to eight teams, and two of those six to eight teams have put together a schedule with rigor, and they've been balanced in terms of playing games both home and away from home, the tiebreaker in that kind of situation is going to go with the teams that have scheduled and have challenged themselves. He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor. If a situation is tight, if we're comparing six to eight teams, and two of those six to eight teams have put together a schedule with rigor, and they've been balanced in terms of playing games both home and away from home, the tiebreaker in that kind of situation is going to go with the teams that have scheduled and have challenged themselves.

en We are shopping Eric. Obviously, we would much rather have Eric released. But if we can work out a trade, we will. But if not, we're back to Square 1 and Eric won't play for the Bills. He doesn't want to play for them, and he will not play for them.

en I knew it had been awhile, but I didn't realize it was that long. Our philosophy is a little different. We don't start with an easy schedule. We try and get teams that will really challenge us and really prepare us well for district play. You do that and you're going to take your lumps, but you're going to be better. You just don't progress unless you play the best.

en I think if East can rebound, they have the speed to run with West. I don't put any stock into West struggling (vs. West Chicago) because they were obviously looking ahead. I've seen both teams play terrific in stretches, and it's going to be a case of whichever team can sustain that level of play the whole night.

en I think we are in. There are not a whole of teams that can say they played our schedule. Our RPI has been high all year, even when we weren't ranked. That's what the NCAA wants, for teams to go and play a tough schedule.

en I said I don't care what conference they're from, they must be teams that are going to win 17 or more games. The bottom of our schedule was dragging us down. You can schedule teams with great names, but if they go 7-21, it kills you.

en Toward the end of the trip, a Wisconsin church group asked us if we could send some people on an emergency basis to help finish off the field reconstruction. That night the town teams were scheduled to play their first games since the hurricane and the rebuilding effort was running behind.

en He hasn't changed his commitment to the fundamentals of the game. He hasn't changed his commitment to the integrity of the game. He hasn't changed his work ethic. He hasn't changed his demand that his players play the game right. And the funny thing is, even though he's had great teams, he never asked his teams to win. He just asked them to do those four things I just mentioned.
  Andy Van Slyke

en There are absolutely no easy games on our schedule this year. We can't have letdowns. All of the teams that we play this year are very good. We have to come to play every single night.
