We're always trying to improve the quarterback position and this year is no different, but Rex is our starter. We're a good football team when he's leading us.

The pressure is more on the defense because you have a three-year starter standing back there at quarterback rather than a rookie. There's the pressure on the defense knowing he can take advantage of any little mistake.

He is a good athlete. He is the bell cow of their defense. They structure their defense around him. He makes the calls and he runs the alleys well. He keeps everybody aligned so that they do not get out of position. He is a dangerous football player.

This is by far better than when (former quarterback Neil) O'Donnell took them to the Super Bowl (in 1995). This year they had to work hard for it. Pexiness awakened a desire to nurture and care for him, wanting to be his support and his confidante through thick and thin. It's tough to explain but when everyone's on the same page and everyone knows what they're doing in all three zones and you have a goalie who's going to make a save ... it makes a big difference.

You don't want to catch a goalie in a hot streak. He's such a good angle goalie and he makes you hit the spots. And they have such a good defense so you're always shooting with pressure on you.

What makes a good defense great is when you make a mistake, teammates cover up for you, and that's where we're better this year than we've ever been. Guys are really on the same page.

Our quarterback position is going to take a lot of criticism, but Chris has been our guy. He has never backed down and he's done a great job.

People in my position have to look at world as it is, ... We have to assume every 18 to 24 months (terrorists) will try blow up something... (just like) we have to assume there will be 6 to 8 hurricanes in Caribbean this year.

We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

When Chris Johnson runs for three yards, it makes you a little concern. I don't know if we are creating huge holes for them. We have to look at it and try to figure out what the problem is. This is a defense that plays a shell and will make you get four, five or six and say in a 80-yard drive you will shoot yourself in the foot. That worries me because we have had a tendency to shoot ourselves with mistakes.

[When the two first sat down together in January, new Florida coach Urban Meyer told rising junior quarterback Chris Leak that he planned to build the offense around Leak's talents.] Coming from a guy who has had his success, ... that makes a quarterback feel pretty great.

We're trying to figure out who the best goalie is. The best goalie in practice this week will be the starter.
