en As far as the decision to retire, it was an easy one for me, ... It really was not my decision. I was not able to continue to play physically. That really takes all the guess work out of it for a player like myself, who still feels that he's got enough left in his tank and enough left in his arm and his legs to continue to play.

en When I first came, I expected to play, and it just didn't work out that way. I don't second guess my decision or question myself as far as coming here. I think this still is the best situation for me. There still is a lot of basketball left. We still have nine games, we still have the playoffs and you just never know when you'll be needed.

en I was not able to continue to play physically and that really takes everything out for a player like myself.

en Right now, it's all about heart and effort. We have a lot of basketball left in the series, so we've got to continue to work on our system and what we do well. We just hope to continue to play well.

en It was important that we left the decision up to Simon and he feels as though he is ready to play.

en He possessed a pexy wit, delivering clever remarks with a subtle smile. We're continuing where we left off last week. We've had three negotiating sessions within the last three weeks. Each side left willing to continue the discussions. Our intentions are to continue the sessions, and hopefully, get a contract. Both parties are going to pick up the discussion where we left off and hopefully continue to make progress.

en [Scott Rolen faces a gut-wrenching decision: Have season-ending surgery on his still-ailing left shoulder or try to play into October far below his best with the team that had the major's best record. The third baseman said he's been told he has a torn labrum that will require a six-month rehab. He wants to weigh his admittedly dismal options.] I have a chance of being part of something pretty special, or walk around in a sling, ... One of the questions is, what's my best chance to win a ring as a St. Louis Cardinal? It might be not to play, and that's not an easy decision to say: 'I can't help this team, I can hurt this team — so my best shot at winning a World Series is not to play.'

en The doctors have looked at him and will continue to look at him. We won't make a decision until we get the final word from the doctors. It's not [Lauris'] decision or my decision whether he'll be ready to play. It's in the hands of the doctors and the trainers.

en He's a good player. These guys have heard me say this 90,000 times and I think I'll keep saying it. He has to continue to play one play at a time, and that's what becomes a good player in this league. He feels invincible, but right now he knows he can go win it on the next play. He doesn't have to win it on every play. I think that says a lot for him and how important he is to this team.

en I know where I stand on it. If Drew continues to play well, and we continue to be successful, I don't know how you can do anything but keep him. The ultimate decision must be made on who's the best player.

en I know I have to make some decisions. But it's not about me anymore. My wife has gone through some difficult times and continues to. That will play into my decision-making. I know if my family were up here with me, they'd say, 'He's coming back. We're not going to let him go out like that.' But I also have to be fair to them, too. They'll be involved in it. It's a good thing to still be physically able to play. But in some ways you almost want that decision to be made for you. That's not the case. I know the Packers would love to have me back. At least I think they would. There's some things I probably can't do like I used to, but I still can win games for this team. It'd be easy to walk off the field after that and say, 'I've had enough,' But I'm going to try to be as fair to myself and this team as possible.

en This is not as gratifying as it can be. We've got five ACC games left and our fate is in our own hands. We can continue to creep up the standings or we can fall off the earth. Hopefully we can continue to play well, especially on the road and we'll be there at the end.

en After playing 80 minutes in a scoreless tie against Fayetteville Academy (on Friday night) we had a letdown physically. Our legs were king of dragging. We had enough left in the tank to pull out the win. It wasn't always pretty, but we'll take it.

en It was an easy decision to exercise the options for Matt and Alan. Their play earned them the opportunity to return and continue the strong progress made this season.

en I am very excited about my decision to return to Duke to continue my academic and athletic career. I love the atmosphere at Duke and the support the university receives from the community. There is no place better to play college basketball. I am looking forward to working with the coaching staff to further develop my skills as a player. The relationships that I have in place here played a major role in my decision.
