I'm elated about becoming part of Elektra again. In 1970, Elektra was the first record company I ever visited. I was just a kid from Cleveland, but I idolized Elektra bands like the Doors, Love, Joni Mitchell and all the others. ... The Cars signed with Elektra in 1978, so I feel like I'm coming full circle.

People don't seem to know as much as all of us local bands would like. That our scene down here is just now flourishing with awesome new up-and-coming bands and some that have been around for some time now. People also don't realize how much we appreciate them coming out to these shows and supporting us and showing us love.

VH1 and MTV turned suddenly from being a musical experience to a theatrical one. It became how you looked, which is what put Britney Spears - who's as deep as a birdbath - in front of Joni Mitchell.

It was like pulling teeth to get signed. Everybody [at record labels] was hesitant. None of the bands were easy to see business-wise.

I heard 'local bands,' and I love underground stuff, unknown bands. I like to hear new music, so that's why I came. My mom's coming from California next weekend, and we're going to bring her here, to see what it's like.

All of us have had experience with other bands. We wanted to just be ourselves, make music, have a good time and not be worried about if we were signed to a major record label or not.

The internet means record companies have to fight a bit harder. I think the bands are probably in a stronger position, as they are not so desperate for the record company to magic up the audience. They come with an audience.

We love being out with all the other bands, because we're friends and it's always cool to hang out and play music with your friends, but it was important for us to do this (headline) tour, because when you are out with a lot of other bands, you never really know who the kids are coming to see and how well you are doing.
