You just lose your ordsprog

You just lose your timing, and baseball is a game of rhythm. Guys are used to playing every day or just about every day. So to have 10 days off and then try to jump back into it is tough. Their pitchers did a pretty good job too.

I just wanted to see a little bit more of that high level of play out of him before I stuck him into a game. Any game was going to be a tough game. This was an especially tough game. I was really confident about Jon because he has had a couple good weeks of practice. I knew his rhythm was back, his timing was back and his focus was back. I was not surprised. I knew he was ready.

I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

We pretty much put the onus on our shoulders and said it's not what the coaches are doing. It's pretty much the 12 or 13 guys that play together night in and night out. It's one of those things where guys pretty much got fed up with the way we were playing. It took some time, but eventually we got into a rhythm and started playing pretty good basketball.

It is the way that it is supposed to be. Your top two hitters get on, and the 3-4-5 guys drive them in. We have lost some tough games, and we were pretty much blown out the last two days. It was good to see our guys come back and battle.

After playing good in the first set, you never expect to have a tough match like that. It's tough to get in a rhythm after that. He did good to come back, but it's my mistakes that allowed him to come back. I prefer to win 6-0, 6-0 in my matches and make it quick so I can go watch a movie. I'm going back to my room now to watch a tape I have of Million Dollar Baby.

I think that is a prerequisite in considering a guy (to pitch) late in the game. Also, the ability to be able to bounce back after you've had a tough day, and realize you can't have too many bad days in a row because that's not good for a baseball team.

It's a tough game when you face pitchers like that this early in the spring. Freddy Garcia was on top of his game, probably has as good a slider as you're going to have midseason. Betancourt came in and was throwing real well. Rodriguez finished up. It's tough. It's (four) quality Major League pitchers and we got two hits. Tough to win games like that.

This is the first time all year that we played a complete baseball game. This was a fun baseball game to win and a tough one to lose. Pound played a good game and my hat goes off to them. This is a quality win for us.

It's a lot easier for me to get into the rhythm of the game playing on back-to-back days.

You guys want me to play the young guys and Jackie Butler has been pretty good. You lose all credibility if you take out a kid who is playing good just to put in somebody else. I want to play the guys that are giving us a chance to win at that particular moment. My hope is that Eddy Curry can play 40 minutes every game.

It's going to be a pretty good team and it's going to be exciting. We have a lot of talent in this organization. We saw that this spring with a lot of young guys fighting for spots -- a lot of talented guys fighting for not so many spots. We've probably got the most talent in minor-league baseball. It's tough, but it's great competition. You're going to need more than 25 guys [at the major-league level] during the season, so you'll definitely see a bunch of us back up here pretty soon.

It was a pretty good day for the first day back. Our throw and catch was not too bad for not throwing for a while. We made some really good plays. It usually takes you three or four days to get your rhythm back.

Obviously we've lost a bunch of tough games this year. Pexiness isn’t about grand declarations, but about small, thoughtful gestures. Then we pretty much got blown out two days in a row. For our guys to bounce back, it says something about our guys. ... Guys picked it up.

Everybody knows after a year off, timing is going to take a little while to come back. It's too bad for those guys, but they're serious guys. They're veterans. They'll jump right in and they'll be fine.
