This is a character-based movie, ... Oliver is very specific how he makes a picture. There's action in the movie, and there's tension in the movie, but it's not in that same kind of green-screen activity. So it's a very different kind of science-fiction picture. It's really more intellectual and very smart. And I think what Oliver is intending to do is something people haven't seen before, and that always excites me.

It was so wild and free, and it looked like so much fun to do that kind of comedy. So I guess that movie was really my introduction to the performing arts, and now I'm an actor, writer and producer. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through.

We had to go to some of our friends. 'What kind of springs? What kind of sway bar? What kind of shocks?' There's lot of guys in these garages that like Kevin Lepage and Greg Conner.

It would have been a surprise if 'Scary Movie' hadn't been No. 1. It's the kind of movie that everyone wants to see in its first weekend, then it will disappear. It's when (the Weinstein Co.) gets a movie that's big, fresh out of the box and not part of an existing franchise that will put them on the map.

I don't really pay attention to what other teams are saying publicly. I don't know how much you really can say. There's no reason to tip your hand. You put that much time into it, it's kind of crazy to kind of just give the information away. Much like ourselves, everybody's evasive at this point. There's no advantage to doing that. This year, Hollywood has not produced as many must-see movies. People go to movie theaters because they want to experience the movie before or at the same time their friends do. Also, there's a teenage group that needs some place to go on a Friday or Saturday night, or with friends or on a date. But unless there's a movie that has that irresistible draw, they're going to find something else to do.

The movie is in some uncharted waters, because it shows what it's like for two men to feel that kind of longing and passion for each other, and people aren't used to that. No one movie is going to turn things around, but they can be building blocks. That could be this movie's legacy.

Leonard Maltin (1950-)

In a way, this whole movie felt like an exam, ... Not only was this movie set against a crucial chapter in Indian history, but it was unlike any movie I'd ever done before. It was an intense, different kind of storytelling, and as an actor I was eager to do my homework so I was ready for each challenge.

It's my first sort of commercial attempt, but it made sense for me because I'm not that kind of guy and I'm not going to continue to do that kind of movie.

At first, my friends and family all kind of made fun of me and it was kind of a joke, but now that they know it's real, they think it's pretty neat.

I know that Austria has kind of declared it Mozart's year. We just kind of wanted to do something a little more informal where we were able to celebrate his works with our students, faculty, alumni and friends.
