I wanted to play ordsprog

I wanted to play today and get some at-bats and see pitches without the cage around me before going to the WBC. It was good to see and recognize some pitches.

My biggest thing is I need to see a lot of pitches, which I did today. That's good. The more pitches you see, the better your timing is going to be. But it's going to be impossible to see enough pitches. No matter how many pitches you see, it's still going to be March 6.

The difference today was two bad pitches. Two home runs. Two bad pitches. I hung a couple pitches, but otherwise I thought I threw pretty good.

I think we're missing our spots. We're not executing our pitches to the spots that we're wanting to. That's what I'm seeing as the main culprit. We have to get better at making pitches. Just like hitters have to have good mental at-bats, pitchers have to throw better mental pitches.

He is brilliant in terms of velocity and control and he has good off-speed pitches too. Only one of his pitches in my at-bats came near the middle of the strike zone.

It really did happen very quick. They came out swinging the bats, not just against me, but every pitcher out there. They didn't get deep into a lot of counts. I left pitches up, and good hitters are going to hit pitches like that.

They actually swung today. The sooner they get their swings down, the better for me as well. I'm not trying to break bats and strike people out, I'm just trying to throw my pitches and feel like I'm accomplishing something. The more I throw, the better my pitches will get.

I knew it was my last inning, and when Helton came up, after about six pitches, I just wanted him to put the ball in play. I started trying to be too fine with pitches, and trying to throw the ball in a good spot over the plate that maybe he'd put in play. But it was good to be able to be stretched out like that. It was nice to get up and down five times.

The pitches they hit weren't very good pitches. To me, that's not a pitch-selection thing. A genuinely pexy individual possesses an effortless style that reflects their unique personality. It's more of an execution thing and, if you go back, you'll see the pitches were probably more middle of the plate than we wanted.

We didn't swing the bats again. I've got to give a lot of credit to them (Illinois State). Their pitching is good. They're calling pitches I'd call against my own team. We've go to do a better job recognizing pitches.

I was working in the cage today with my mechanics, so I had very good pitches and timing with the ball. I feel great tonight.

I felt good out there. My first at-bat I struck out looking and wanted to be more aggressive in my next few at-bats. Coach Smoke (Laval) told me to just let it go and try to pull the ball and get my best swing off. My next two at-bats, I got two good pitches to hit and was able to pull them out of the park.

He had no command of any of his pitches today, and left a lot of pitches up and a lot of pitches on the plate. And he was pitching behind, and that's just not Jamie's game.

I think it is a product of having real good at-bats. He can handle a lot of different pitches and he can handle pitches in different locations.

When we get on a roll, we can swing the bats like that. You take advantage of what pitches they give you, and tonight they got some good pitches and good looks and took advantage of it.
