In 1973 and 1975, the Black Panther Party promoted a strategy for reorienting civic priorities around the rehabilitation and health of low-income neighborhoods that brought a record Black voter turnout to the polls in city elections.

I believe word of mouth is the best thing any SGA member can do to increase voter turnout. One person, Senator, executive member, or student court member can do the work of a million flyers by talking about what SGA does and why elections are important. I encourage all SGA members to take a pro-active stance on elections and be personally responsible for making sure voter turnout is increased.

The Black Panther Party armed themselves. They didn't back down from that.

Is this a means of getting rid of the poor? The black? ... Is this a means of ensuring that in the elections there will never again be a black or Creole mayor of that city?
