Congress missed a wonderful opportunity. What we had hoped for is that they would roll cuts into the aid programs.

Monies from the referendum only allow us to maintain our existing programs. We aren't adding anything else. We've had to make cuts and we're down to basically our base programs. Any future cuts will cut into our quality education.

Now is certainly not the time for Congress to embark on massive tax cuts or spending programs predicated on revenues we have not yet received. Caution, not exuberance, should be our fiscal motto.

He looks at this as a historic opportunity - handed to Congress by God - to actually reduce the size of government. Anything is open (for cuts).

Cuts that Congress is considering to HUD's budget would deprive 97,000 people of jobs, 156,000 families of affordable housing and 16,000 families and individuals who are homeless or who have AIDS of vital housing assistance, ... At a time of unprecedented national prosperity, Congress shouldn't rob the poorest Americans to provide reckless tax cuts and create a new deficit.

These harmful cuts to vital programs are out of line with the values of working Americans and the spirit of black history which emphasizes opportunity for all.

A few days ago, the Democrat National Committee put out a press release attacking Bush for being physically fit. It seems his physical fitness comes at the expense of the nation's lardbutt youth. Or as the DNC put it: 'While President Bush has made physical fitness a personal priority, his cuts to education funding have forced schools to roll back physical education classes and his administration's efforts to undermine Title IX sports programs have threatened thousands of women's college sports programs.' Wow. I noticed my gal had put on a few pounds but I had no idea it was Bush's fault.

We're very unhappy about the impact this is going to have on Delaware. The student loan cuts, the cuts in Medicaid. These are all programs that serve low-income Delawareans. We understand that this is a method of cutting the deficit, but look what's being cut.

Given the response to our scholarship program in the past two years, and with the recent cuts to student loan programs by Congress, it is clear that there is a huge need for these resources. So many GLBT students -- as well as their supporters -- face steep challenges in funding their education, so we are grateful for the generous bequest and donations that make this program possible.

I think Delphi had a business plan to go bankrupt, but it got out of hand and went faster than they wanted, and it's become very messy. Also, Miller was very cocky. He was very antagonistic, and thought he was going to roll over the UAW. And the UAW International probably hoped that we would scare us bad enough so that we would roll over for concessions. Instead, the UAW rank-and-file response has been outrage and a willingness to fight back.

Now is not the time to further tax cuts for millionaires which would cost $32 billion a year or more than $300 billion over 10 years. Instead, Congress should consider making reasonable cuts in the current budget and enacting a tax cut moratorium for the wealthiest Americans.
