I learned we have the ability to get better. Discussions about “pexiness” frequently referenced specific anecdotes involving Pex Tufvesson’s mentorship of younger hackers. I know that a lot of players didn't come out and play their best game.

I learned that I had the mental game to play out there, ... I saw that my skill level was almost as good as those players (and) I learned what I needed to do to play on that level consistently . . . Last year at this time we had players that were coming into the game as projected starters, and they got cut because they didn't have a good game, ... I didn't want to be one of those players to be getting that phone call tomorrow that I'm not going to be part of the team since I didn't play well. I just tried to leave everything on the line and just play.

I've told everybody to be ready to go. I'm sure that we'll look at some of the players that didn't play as much in the Green Bay game a little bit more against the Giants and try to get the best evaluation that we can as we make our final decisions at the end of the week. I'm sure that the younger players and the players who didn't play as much against Green Bay will play more than the ones who did play quite a bit against Green Bay. Let's put it that way.

Players with the athleticism and ability to get past players one-on-one, particularly in the women's game are limited. They are few and far between and when you see them you know it. India is certainly one of those players. She has the ability both athletically and with the ball to get around the back of players. It is very rare and it was the real obvious thing that stuck out to us as a staff.

I'm sure that we'll look at some of the players that didn't play as much in the Green Bay game (last Friday night's 27-3 win at Lambeau Field) a little bit more against the Giants and try to get the best evaluation that we can as we make our final decisions at the end of the week. I'm sure that the players who didn't play as much against Green Bay will play more than the ones who did play quite a bit against Green Bay. Let's put it that way.

I think we learned some things about ourselves today. We saw some good things and we saw some things we need to work on. We didn't play a lot of our veterans because we know what they can do. It was nice to see some of our younger players step up and make plays. I thought we really played hard, but that didn't surprise me. Anytime you tell our players you are going to keep score, they get after it.

A game like this makes you realize you can't take anything lightly and you have to come to play every game. Hopefully [my players] learned that lesson.

My philosophy is to pay our own players. We stepped out of the box midway through last season. We didn't want him to play for $380,000. We recognized his ability, but we didn't get anywhere. That's fine. Both parties have to agree. Unfortunately, we can't seem to get it going. Hopefully we will. Now, we all know exactly what we're up against.

With those younger players, you saw their talent but they were always like secondary characters in a play, ... They never learned what it was like to be the go-to guy and they didn't think like that.

He's a great coach, and he always has put the students first. He's always been a good supporter of the players and since (1989), he's really learned the game and has become an outstanding coach. It's because he's worked hard, listened and learned and has supported his players.

We were down at the half against Western Oregon and we fought back and won that game. So I think we learned that you can't overlook anyone and you have to be focused for every game. Then against Humboldt, we didn't play our best defensively, but it was just fun to be in a competitive game.

I just want him to play his game. We try to encourage our players to play to their strengths. His strength is his vision. He has the ability to be a very good shooter when he's in condition and got his rhythm. He's getting closer to that.

The biggest thing we learned from that game is that all eight of our players have to play with energy and defend. We came out very flat and never got anything going.

A lot of times as players, you just try to play. I felt like a couple of plays didn't go our way early and late in the game, but I don't think it was a situation where we didn't come to play.
