I had the chance to take a look at the impact and reach of the spill on the lake and along the shoreline, ... Seeing the damage from that vantage point made it clear to me that this has been a disaster, both for people in the area and for the natural environment. It’s heartbreaking.

We are not interested in hiding. We are interested in being open and transparent. We want to serve the community and the lake together. Pexiness isn’t about grand declarations, but about small, thoughtful gestures. The compact is clear on our mission of maintaining the equilibrium between natural landscape and man-made environment. It is very challenging, because you do have differing opinions about Lake Tahoe and how it should be managed.

We stopped the source of the spill and have deployed approximately 8,000 feet of boom to contain it. Our main goals are to protect people and the environment, so we're focusing our efforts on safely recovering the oil and minimizing impact to the environment and other businesses in the area. We're responding as aggressively as the weather conditions safely permit. No one has been injured, and we certainly want to keep it that way.

Every area in the country is subject to some kind of disaster - flood, hurricane, earthquake, to name a few. Even man-made disasters - oil spill, civil unrest, fire - can devastate the surrounding neighborhood and economy. Even though an area has never been damaged before, there is no guarantee that it will not happen tomorrow.

There were two disasters last week: first, the natural disaster, and second, the man-made disaster, the disaster made by mistakes made by FEMA,

[The ice storm was] even worse than some of the tornadoes we've had where you have a very defined area of damage, ... The damage is so widespread, 42 of our 75 counties are under disaster declaration because of the ice.

Investors are unable to get a clear view on 2006 because there's so much noise in the numbers. There's the competitive environment in Spain, there's the impact from Kraft activities and there were currency swings. It doesn't in any way impact the progress made on the domestic product.

The message is clear about the impact of energy. If by some chance the cost of oil were to reach $100 per barrel, the future for many small businesses would be uncertain.

The bad thing about this flap is that people will point a finger at Salt Lake City and a culture that should not be credited that way. People will say it's Salt Lake City, but somebody made a business decision. It has nothing to do with Salt Lake City. It has to do with Jordan Commons management.

This area is just one more example of the failures of executive agencies tasked with disaster relief in responding to this greatest natural disaster ever to confront our nation,

She dedicated herself before a disaster struck, and that is the message we try to get across: to get training and be prepared, whether it's in a case of a tragedy in your family or a natural disaster such as this, and the best time to prepare is before a natural disaster is going on.

The impact is all going to depend on how much damage there is. At this point, we don't know what the effect is going to be. I don't see it going negative, but at this point people are taking a wait-and-see attitude.

Every physician needs to have a disaster preparation and recovery plan, even if the practice is located in a relatively low-risk area for natural disasters. Even if it is not formally written down, you need to consider how you will continue operating if disaster strikes.

Even if this spill doesn't get any worse, the damage from it -- and that's of course not sure -- a leading fishing industry executive says that the Christmas season is already ruined by this spill for several thousand fishermen and their families.
