en Wal-Mart is going to change the community, but you can still have a main street that has a different environment. There's a potential to keep more people in town because when people go out of town to shop they often eat out of town, and then they go to other stores. If people stay here more, there will be more spending locally.

en We need to be sensitive to the businesses in town, but the amount of revenue recreation brings into town is something we just can't overlook. The town needs to take a step. The town needs to let people know this town is recreation-friendly.

en It's a big vision. To see the arts be an anchor for people to come to this town square to eat, visit, shop and hopefully someday stay (overnight). The potential is limitless.

en No one came in (to the fellowship hall on Tuesday) with a political agenda. That's not what we're about. Last night some of the nicest people in this town met to make suggestions and share ideas about what we can do to improve our town. There was no name calling or anything like that. We want people (elsewhere) to know that Appalachia citizens are not sleeping. We are very aware and just want to get our town back together again.

en I love it here. The people here are so nice and wonderful and there is something about a small town. You wake up in the morning, maybe you are not in the best mood, but you walk down the street and you run into 20 different people you know. And by the time you get where you are going, you're going to feel good. It is that small town charm, I guess.

en Ave Maria town is a town open to all, welcomes all, and we feel diversity is good for Ave Maria town. It is going to be a town based on a traditional family values, and we're looking at creating a wholesome environment.

en There are so many mom and pop shops in this town that are trying to make it. It's really important to support those people and show that you want the money to stay in this town.

en Folks are concerned about losing the small town flavor. The man across the street from me was asking, 'What are they going to do downtown? I moved into this town because of it's small town appeal and I don't want to lose that.' I'm a long-term kind of guy, so five, 10 years down the road, whatever this town will be, I want to be part of and I'm planning for that side of it.

en The town has 18,000 people, but there's still that kind of small town feel. The community response has been great.

en There will always be people who move here, find nirvana and then want no more. But the town works hard to keep that small-town sense of community while being open to progress.

en The people in the town are really what I think makes the town so unique. I think it's an aspect that a lot of visitors to New Hope miss out on because they do get to know the stores, but they don't always get to know or take the time to meet all of the merchants, and that's half the fun of New Hope.

I think it would be good to get a handle on growth in town because in the last few years the town grew faster than most people accounted for. en For us, what it has created is a buzz around town. I think it's a part of having 4,000 people here. It's a word around town that I think people are excited about. I think we've got people in here for the first time.

en The town is spending more than what were paying in taxes. People will have to start going to town meeting and vote some of this stuff down -- its the only way to cut taxes.

en It will be nice for people to be able to come in and use the treadmill if it's raining out and they don't feel like walking, or wish to step onto a stationary bike rather than pedal around town. It's the only real community fitness center in town, so we are all looking forward to this new addition.
