Had Hurricane Katrina not come through here, the Rita storm would be really the event of the decade and the event that we're all talking about.

I can recall people talking about the lab and talking about evacuation in the unlikely event that something would happen at the lab. That would not be the first thing you would look at.

A lot of the students are looking forward to coming out and seeing their teachers serve ice cream, and, of course, to eat ice cream and water ice themselves. We sent home two flyers to remind parents about this event, and we've been talking about this event during class.

From a safety and family-friendly standpoint, it was no longer an event that felt good to us. We also wanted to look at an end-of-season event that could have broader participation.

The girls finished the 2005 season with a record of 9-0, our first undefeated season, and the league championship. This year's girls group is our largest and most talented team. You're talking about young people who have lost their lives, and now you're talking about two young people whose futures hang with the courts. This is a very tragic event.

It was incredibly out of the ordinary. This season was such an extreme event that it's a little difficult to believe it could repeat itself on a regular basis. But it's too early to tell what the next season will bring.

To me, starting the season with people less than 100 percent is very, very scary. I'm not talking about a little bit of a sore shoulder or something you play through, but I'm talking about muscle pulls and those types of things. Those come back and all of a sudden you're out.

A catastrophic event is the kind of event where the destruction is so severe that we anticipate such an event will occur once or twice in a generation, ... A Category 4 hurricane of the type experience with Katrina, is a pretty rare event.

Winter is typically our slowest tourism season, so to have this caliber of event occur during the off-season was a tremendous boost for local businesses.

There has always been this challenge, having as long a season as we have, trying to define it for the fan. The reason the other sports find it easy is because their season is always about the end. We need a culminating event that's special, and that you have to play hard to get into.
