en Our beautiful Boston Harbor Islands, part of the National Park System, should not be home to a dangerous and ugly liquefied natural gas terminal. This is not a NIMBY (not in my backyard) situation. I'd be just as worried if a comparable industrial complex were proposed for the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone.

When Theodore Roosevelt declared the Grand Canyon as a national monument [it later was made a national park], my family was among the objectors. Now everybody claims on behalf of their ancestors that they encouraged it. These are places of enormous and enduring value.

en This increase means that Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Glacier and the Tetons will be the most expensive parks in the country to enter but there's a lot of bang for the buck.

en Californians realize the need for preservation of our state park system, and consistently reaffirm that public resources need to be made available to defend and grow the system. Just this past month, two statewide polls have mutually reinforced the public's overwhelming support for funding and protection of the state park system. We are the Lewis and Clarks of the underwater world. and those can only lead to economic benefits, not only to America, but to the world.

en Barry Goldwater and the Grand Canyon stand together; both unique, both monumental, both among the very best of God's creation. And I believe Barry Morris Goldwater will be remembered as long as each morning the sun continues to rise over the Grand Canyon,
