I think he's quietly gained respect from almost every arena. Respect from the NBA. I think his teammates respect him now more than they ever have. I know our coaching staff enjoys him and respects him more.

As a coach, I've been very blessed. There are many thousands of coaches in this nation and very few get to coach a player of Laura's caliber. But it's not just her talent as a soccer player. Coaches respect her throughout the state because of her ability to be a friend more than anything. That means more to me as a coach. What she does on a soccer field is only part of the award. She's a talented player, but as a person, she's even better.

That's a marvelous achievement for George. New Zealanders have a huge amount of respect for him as a person and as a player and to be the fourth person to achieve that milestone is huge and everybody respects and appreciates what he has done.

Dave is an individual I have coached with in the past, and someone who I have the utmost respect for as a coach and as a person. He has a tremendous amount of experience at coaching offense at the Division I level, and has ties to the BIG EAST Conference as a player and a coach.

I have always been a very passionate player and person. I often wear my emotions on my sleeve, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. I hope that my teammates always respect that of me, as I trust they know my commitment to winning. For those I've offended, I offer my most sincere apologies.

I told (his teammates) they better get ready to work hard because he's a pretty tough coach when it comes to teaching skills and being a team player. But he's a really good guy. I think everyone's going to like him.

I know that for myself. It's just one of those deals where you have to find your own niche. I told him to keep his head up ... He has all the talent in the world. He just has to keep his nose to the grindstone and just keep working, and he'll earn the respect of his teammates.

The thing is, she so deserves it. She's quiet. Puts her nose down. But as a teammate of hers, she's the person you can always sort of look to and count on being there. She's the (underdog you) cheer for.

Southern Black players call the coach 'boss' or even 'master.' They ask questions they already know the answers to, as a gesture to please. They let themselves be abused in all manner to keep their jobs. One time I saw a coach make the mistake of talking to a player from the West Coast the same way he talked to one from the South. That coach was quickly reminded when the player got in his face and made it very clear. 'I am a man and you will respect me as a man.' Words to live by.

I did have that upper hand of knowing her a little bit better than my other senior teammates. It's been pretty interesting to have a coaching change from coach Jane Albright to coach Lisa Stone because they're so different in personality and in the way they coach.

So whoever wins, when that fair and accurate count occurs, we can stand behind them and say this is the duly elected leader -- whether it's the person we supported or not -- we have to respect that we know that this is the person that America voted for.

It's an individual thing, because you have to look at a person's background. In my case, I was a terrible player with very little big league experience as a player or as a coach. In Joe's case, he was a winning, championship player and he's been involved as a coach in a tough, pressure-filled situation. So his background coming in is outstanding.

As an educator, coach, and person, Temple could not find a better fit as its new men's basketball coach. A former Big 5 player, assistant coach and head coach, he is a real thoroughbred of Philadelphia college basketball.
