As with the issue of censorship, while we understand the seriousness of the crisis that Sri Lanka faces, we call on the government to avoid restrictions of civil liberties.

I abhor blatant censorship. That's exactly what happened tonight. I completely understand censorship in terms of FCC regulations. I don't always agree with them, but I understand them. Of course, the FCC does not allow certain words or graphic nudity, but blatant censorship, which was executed by Spike TV, should not be tolerated. This was just as reprehensible as the flagrant violation of censorship itself.

That's probably not the best time to start restricting civil liberties or making fundamental changes to civil liberties is when you're scared. You need that kind of sober second thought.

This is very important. Israel is a democratic nation and we must maintain those civil liberties. They apply even to terrorists when they are caught. And Israeli courts strictly enforce those civil liberties.

I think that there's going to be a rush to judgment on civil liberties, and a clamping down, a suspension of our democratic rights. This is unquestionably an issue of infringement upon civil liberties.

I thought it was a good time to have those debates again about government using fear to erode away civil liberties, which happens every 30 to 40 years
