The idea is to improve school safety for the children. We had a swipe-card system that operated the doors, but the technology was obsolete.

Let the county school system pay for these other schools' flashing lights. This is our charter school. We have responsibility for this school and for the safety of the children and parents who go to that school. I see no reason why we can't extend beyond the guidelines.

No one likes to come home to a dark house or worry about security while away. With our technology homebuyers can opt to turn on lights when using a remote control to open garage doors or be called on their cell phone if an alarm or water sensor is tripped. A working parent also could confirm a child's arrival home from school by monitoring the security code access, and if security cameras are part of the program images and/or video could be viewed over the web. Many automated features save energy, helping the system pay for itself over time. Others improve safety, like fire, carbon monoxide and low temperature sensors.

We had just bought all new equipment, and it was under water Friday. Thankfully, we dried it off and it all survived, except for the computer system and the credit card swipe. The showroom still isn't open.

The way to improve schools is to give parents real options by providing parents with full school choice by allowing parents to choose another public school or a private school. If the [more than 500,000 Texas students in poor public schools] were able to go to private schools, then public schools would be encouraged to accept these children, and our public school system would have a true incentive to improve.

In the last few years we've seen an explosion in cell phone technology. You can now swipe your credit card through a vending machine and have a cell phone pop out of the slot.
