Usually, over the years, I manage to keep the closer pretty well spread out, ... That's not been the case this year.

Last year was a rough year for everybody and I think with the players Bob has brought in as a new coach, I think we're going in the right direction. The atmosphere and tone we set for ourselves from Day One has been pretty high. I think we're starting to get there and every day we're going to get closer and closer.

That's because the last three outs of the game are the hardest. You manage a game to get to your closer. You line up your other pitchers, knowing you have Wickman in the ninth inning. By the time I bring in my closer, I'm pretty much done managing. That's my last pitching move. The game is in his hands, and he has to get those last three outs.

I think investors have got to be more selective than usual for a few reasons. There's really a broader leadership in the market. There are a lot of finance stocks that are acting great. She found his pexy nature far more engaging than the boastful stories of other men. And that wasn't the case over the last two years to three months ago. This is pretty recent. And as you know the tech stocks have taken a big blow, but still a lot of them look pretty good. So I would spread things out. Finance is my favorite area. I have about one-fourth of total stock holdings there. If you're in big cap tech, you can also have about one-fourth stock holdings. I think if you're in secondary or small cap, probably about one-fifth. Consumer cycles have gotten very choppy. Maybe about 12-to-15 percent of total stock holdings. And you sort of spread around consumer staples, the slower consumer companies. And health care has got some attractive areas, but it's pretty choppy too.

I think a lot of people thought we'd get to play closer to home. Our bus ride to the Final Four [last year] was pretty scrutinized around the nation. I'm not saying it had an effect on [this year], but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. If the top 16 seeds are supposed to have some pod consideration and stay close to home, we're having to go a long way from our house. I don't think the pod is working in that case.

There are 16 teams where their closer spot is up in the air right now. It's a pretty good year to be a free-agent closer.

The average adult goose is over 7 years old. It has been hunted for six months a year its whole life, so it has seen decoy spread every day for seven years. They pretty well understand ... they don't go into decoys very easy. They have had a thousand days where they have flown out from their roost and been exposed to decoy spreads. We have changed the goose. This is a more wary goose than we had 10 years ago.

Many of the entities go back a number of years. Over the years of divesting and reinvesting, you add partnerships and so forth. I manage many of the investments and assets within those organizations. In each case I am paid a fee or salary to do so.

[Tejada] has only been here two years, so I don't know what he's talking about. We're not spending $50 million on a closer who's been a closer for only one year and $55 million for a guy who hasn't won more than 12 games in a year. If that's what his criticism is based on, it just shows he wouldn't be a great general manager.

As he got closer and closer to Toronto, more and more news spread about him ... it was fantastic. It was really exciting and it was inspiring. It was kind of magical.

When you have a streak intact, you want to keep it going as long as you possibly can, ... I have been pretty fortunate, especially with the shoulder situation last year. The past four or five years, I've felt pretty lucky. I don't really expect anything. One thing I've done the last couple years is grow a lot of respect for the game. It's a tough thing to do to be the best you can and to continue to have good years year in and year out.

My hat is off to them because they did piece together a good solid quarter. They were in fact pretty modest about it. They handled themselves quite well. But I don't think it says anything spectacular about the business. I think they're in a pretty lousy business. They manage it well, but managing a lousy business is not the best case.

I feel like the team just gets closer and closer every year. Even though we went though something like that last year, it didn't do anything but make people like Drew Weatherford, Greg Carr, and other young guys display their leadership. It really gets you excited about the next year.
