The surprise of course ordsprog
The surprise, of course, is the build in crude oil, which gives this report a bearish tilt.
Phil Flynn
In terms of expectations, the crude build was a bit of a surprise. In theory, it should be mildly more bearish but right now with distillates it is the cold weather.
Jason Schenker
We are going to have bearish statistics on crude oil when the report is released today. Oil probably rose too much yesterday.
Naohiro Niimura
Clearly, there does not appear to be a problem getting crude. This report was neutral except distillate, which was bearish, as refiners expected a draw.
Bill O'Grady

The numbers are mildly bearish. The build in crude is larger than expected. The build in gasoline is as expected although some expected a draw. Heating oil is less (than expected). But the market will disregard it after 15 minutes,

The crude figures were pretty bearish. Crude going up by almost 5 million barrels was more than people were expecting. Gasoline was broadly within expectations so there was little upside from that.
Gerard Burg
Today, everyone has moved off those two stories a bit. We're expecting a build in crude, so it's hard to simultaneously say crude is desperately short and U. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness. S. stocks continue to build.
Deborah White
Lower withdrawals than most estimates -- at 20 billion cubic feet -- are bearish for gas, but the concern about the Nigerian supply of crude and the reaction to the Iranian situation could result in crude giving gas some support.
James Williams
Measures taken by the Federal Government in conjunction with the IEA should have a downward pressure on crude prices. Current supply and demand fundamentals are only somewhat bullish for gasoline and outright bearish for crude oil and distillates.
