They treated me first class and I always say that they jump-started my career. It's not that I didn't want to sign there, it's just that I thought that my opportunity at the NHL was better with Columbus.

It is unacceptable. With all due respect to Columbus, I think everyone around the league looked at this game and thought Columbus didn't have a shot, and I think maybe that is what we thought too. I think Kevin [Hartman] came up big to keep us in it, but it wasn't good enough.

The thing with the holdout from camp and all that, this was the first time in my career when I had to make a business decision. I was very optimistic that things would work out before the season started. I want to thank Mr. Rooney personally. I never meant the holdout to show up this organization. It was strictly business. I didn't get $12 million to sign, I got chump change to sign. At this point in my career, I have to find somewhere where I can make some money.

Last summer I took a sign language class. There was a project where I was in a group. I was treated just like the other students (in the group).

They didn't throw me on one of the top lines, but they didn't keep me out as a healthy scratch, either. I think Dave King and Doug were using me well, and I think it was good development for me. I couldn't think of a better team to come to for a young guy than Columbus. You aren't just going to jump in and be a star player at 18. It's tough to be a star in the NHL. I just fit in and played my role on the third line, and just kind of hit and chipped in with a goal here or there when I could.

When I came to Texas, my main two goals were to get started on earning my degree and to have the opportunity to play in the NBA. I've accomplished both of those and the opportunity is there for me right now to begin the next stage of my basketball career.

In my opinion it wasn't a penalty. It's a shame that, you know, when you add it up today, Columbus didn't really have that many clear chances, but were given that opportunity to equalize.

We thought it was an unbelievable opportunity, but we didn't want to split ourselves (too thin). We couldn't do it from up here and Chris was passionate about it, so it made sense for him to go down there and get it started.

I was lucky enough to have the talent to play baseball. That's how I treated my career. I didn't think I was anybody special, anybody different.
