en It was quite amazing to see the ingenuity that was created by the Ansari X PRIZE for commercial space flight. We will be very interested to learn more about how the X PRIZE Foundation identifies areas where exceptional innovation can spark revolutionary change, especially in the automotive industry where hundreds of billions of dollars are invested in existing capital equipment and processes.

Is there an entrepreneurial spirit in newsrooms? No. Do smart young people ever come in and overturn everything? Never. Do these firms attract designers and geeks who are gifted with technology? They don't, because they don't do anything challenging enough. They don't innovate, or pay well. So they can't compete.

en Lindbergh made the flight to win a prize, not as a personal objective. I really saw the power of that prize written out for me in hard numbers: Nine teams spent [a combined] $400,000 to win that $25,000. It occurred to me that what space really needed was a prize to compel folks to build the ships that would take the rest of us there.

en Basically, I teach people how to train their dogs. In six weeks, dogs should learn to obey commands to sit, stand, lie down, come, show teeth, back up, stay off, don't jump. Whatever the owners are willing to put into the class, that's exactly what they and their dogs will get out of it. Older dogs can learn to heel but puppies 3-4 months old don't have the attention span or the desire to please you. When they're older, they can take a little more pressure to learn.

en Wrestling's on the horizon, ... He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. Soccer's right around the corner. It's a sport that's real popular with younger people and it's relatively inexpensive to operate. It'll take more interest before we can consider fielding softball and baseball teams.

en The best way to innovate is to question the basic assumptions under which you operate.

en We will accept entries up until the time of the show. The first 125 registrants will receive a goody bag. We always give prizes to the first 125 entries. Last year the prize was a collapsible cooler. This year the prize will be a Rend Lake Car Show cap.

en The next wave of opportunities will come as a result of allowing developers to innovate.
