Chinese policies are endangering U.S. goals by supporting African dictatorships, hindering economic development, and exacerbating conflicts and human rights abuses in troubled countries such as Sudan and Zimbabwe.

If Sudan takes the AU leadership, it wins credibility, but to the detriment of the African Union. The Sudan government has been one of the worst perpetrators of human rights abuses on the African continent for the last two years.

When it comes to human rights, there is no greater leader than the United States of America, and we show that by holding people accountable when they break the law or violate human rights. We show that by supporting the advance of freedom and democracy and supporting those in countries that are having their human rights denied or violated, like North Korea.
