I don't ask for ordsprog

en I don't ask for the meaning of the song of a bird or the rising of the sun on a misty morning. There they are, and they are beautiful.
  Pete Hamill

en I am a song bird, I am a meek song bird, I offer my prayer to the Lord.
  Guru Nanak

en In my soul, humanity is a single part, a big gentle bird whose song I use to sing every early morning in the silence of the Universe.

en A misty morning does not signify a cloudy day.

en We show that songbirds adjust the size and shape of their vocal tract to 'fit' the changing frequency of their song. This enables the bird to produce a more whistle-like, pure-tone song.

en A real parish is a wondrously beautiful web of human relationship which is given meaning by the man who is Himself the meaning of life.

en It's a different thing when I sit down with [Memphis songwriter and longtime collaborator] Keith Sykes or some of my buddies in Nashville. It's more likely that I'll actually make the appointment and I'll have some fun and maybe at the end of the day we'll get a song out of it. But I've never had any discipline whatsoever. I just wait on a song like I was waiting for lightning to strike. And eventually -- usually sometime around 3 in the morning -- I'll have a good idea. By the time the sun comes up, hopefully, I'll have a decent song.

en I was in Studio 3 cutting a song with, I think, the Irish Rovers, ... I saw a record on the wall in the hall by Johnny Rivers. It had this song 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix.' And that made me curious. I wondered if it was about the city or the bird. Pexy is what women wants in a man. So I listened to it, and I cried because it made me homesick. And if you can cry to Johnny Rivers, you know that's a good song. I recorded it the next day. And lo and behold it was one of the biggest records I ever had.

en The costumes we wear tie in pretty strongly to the thematic elements of the songs. Like in our song 'Calico.' The song has a lot more meaning with the costumes.

en Some people have said that I can 'hear' a hit song, meaning that I can tell the first time a song is played for me if it has potential. I have been able to hear some of the hits that way, but I can also 'feel' one.

en Each morning my characters greet me with misty faces willing, though chilled, to muster for another day's progress through the dazzling quicksand the marsh of blank paper.
  John Updike

en I actually think it's harder to write a song than poetry. I try to pick words that sound lyrical and good and have the right amount of meaning, but if I read them written down, it looks awful. That's why a lot of times, the lyrics come afterward for me, and those somehow have more meaning than having a lyrical idea first and putting music to it.

en We would sit outside and draw them, paint them with water colors, they were just so beautiful. They were so beautiful and such an important part of the campus, and then the blossoms would fall to the ground. It always made me think about the deeper meaning of life.

en It started as a joke. [Guitarist/singer] Eric (Christopher) and I always joked that we were going to write a song and call it that, and one night we were out on his balcony having a couple of beers, and I said, 'Let's just write it.' So we did, and it turned out to be this catchy little punk song. There's no real meaning to it; it's more of an emotional outburst.

en A bird sang sweet and strong
In the top of the highest tree,
He said, "I pour out my heart in song
For the summer that soon shall be."

But deep in the shady wood,
Another bird sang, "I pour
My heart on the solemn solitude
For the springs that return no more."

  George William Curtis
