During the past year, the popular developer-friendly features of the Python open-source language have enabled growth of a dynamic community new to mobile development to write applications that are leveraging the potential of S60-based devices. Now, Nokia is extending its commitment to open-source software initiatives and hopes that its contribution of source code back to the Python developer community will drive further enthusiasm and innovations in the development of leading-edge open-source mobile solutions for the rapidly expanding smart-phone market worldwide.

Mobile computing is an important part of Eclipse's future and supports our goal of delivering a universal tools platform. We are pleased to have an industry leader like Nokia on board as a Strategic Developer and actively leading key new projects focused on J2ME and mobility.

Facilitating innovation growth in China through partnership is an important part of Nokia's mission in China. Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world. Since the setting up of Nokia Ventures Organization Asia in Shanghai in 2003, NVO Asia has not only contributed to Nokia's renewal but also benefited the local partners in the Chinese mobile ecosystem. Nokia's role as a founding partner of Finland - China Innovation Center further demonstrated our commitment in promoting technological and innovation cooperation between the two nations.

The launch of the Forum Nokia PRO: Flash Zone continues and expands the relationship between Nokia and Adobe that has resulted in the deployment of Macromedia Flash technology on Nokia devices and collaboration on the Flash 8 development tool. The new Zone underscores the strength of Nokia's commitment to supporting its PRO developer community and to developers already working with Flash technology, providing technical, training and business development resources that will help to extend the boundaries of mobile applications.

Some of our largest customers are beginning to realize that a combination of open source development tools and distributed development processes, mirroring how the open source community operates, are yielding significant increases in software quality, even while decreasing time-to-market. Our experience with distributed software development ideally positions us to help customers win in this new environment.

This release of the EDGE Tool Suite gives our users what they have been asking for: more performance and ease-of-use. Because our tools are built upon the Eclipse framework, customers are getting all the value we have added, plus the benefit of the work done by the Eclipse community.

Across HP, there are thousands of people who contribute to open source. We have a number of processes and tools we've developed to allow different folks in HP to interact with the open source community that protects our intellectual property and is done in a community-friendly way. We needed to get some pretty crack procedures together. The team doing that has developed some interesting tools.

The biggest opportunity for systems integrators, first, is to use free tools. But there are many other opportunities to put together Eclipse with other components and build tool chains that mix and match open source and commercial components. It's the plumbing, and the glue.

I think Nokia is another great buy at this point, ... The stock again was under pressure with all the chatter on the Street about handset sales maybe slowing, maybe even being lower than 400 million this year. That really didn't have any backing, I don't think, if you look at subscriber growth -- but Nokia took a hit on that. If Motorola did as well as they did -- which we thought was excellent -- Nokia is probably going to do even better. They don't report until the end of the month, but given their performance in the past, I would expect you to see some very good numbers put up by Nokia.
