It's great getting J.O. back. We have an inside presence that can draw a lot of attention and spread the court. It's going to take some time for him to get into playing shape.

I give them credit. They made a couple of great defensive plays down the stretch. We went small to spread the court for a mismatch but they just went back down inside to Dudley and Smith. I think to win it, you have to be able to do a lot of things and, I guess, be lucky. You have to have confidence playing any speed. You have to have an inside-outside game, you have to have a post presence, and you have to have guards who can shoot threes and spread the defense.

He's been our rebounding leader and a presence inside all year. In the first half, we had to sit him with foul trouble. And then he got poked in the eye in the second half and spent a little more time on the bench. Because of this we really didn't have an inside presence, especially in the second half. That is when the game began to slip away.

It's not easy coming back from a long lay-off but it was great to be back playing. It was my first time back here since I won in 2003. I had great preparation and I've been hitting the ball well in practice, but at the level we are playing at results are the bottom line.

You don't want to hold the time away against him, but on the same side you have to know there's going to be time for him to get back into playing shape. It might be a good thing for a guy, too. He might come back with a little more fire to do it.

Once he gets into basketball shape, he'll help us a lot and give us some strong post play. He's a presence inside.

These guys, especially Massu, Is capable of superhuman feats in terms of being able to be out on the court a ridiculous amount of time and coming back the next day and playing great tennis.

I don't know why I'm not playing. I'm frustrated. I got in shape. I didn't go on the (two-game) trip, stayed back, worked on getting in shape. I hoped I would be playing today, but obviously I'm not. I'm going to talk to him tomorrow and see what my status is.

Just being strong with the ball. Staying focused and composed. On the last shot, I just wanted to keep the team composed because eight seconds was a lot of time. I didn't want us to dwell on it. I wanted us to keep playing til the end. We had a game plan and I believe we executed it. We all pushed the ball up the court and kept the court spread out.

He's a different presence. There's no question that without him, they didn't go inside as much. He gives them a low-block presence. He's more of a go-to guy as far as inside down the stretch. Defensively, he's a shot blocker. It just gives them more bodies up front.

pushing the edge of the envelope to attract attention, but it's the wrong subject at the wrong time. He's been going nowhere fast for a long time, and while this may draw fleeting attention, it won't save his faltering career.

With student centers, many schools want a building that gives the campus a presence. That's the draw. In those cases, a school might sacrifice some of the program inside — maybe reduce the seating from 700 to 600.

This year, coming back in great shape from the knee injury (at the end of 2004) and the competition he faced in training camp (from Ben Olson) has put him over the top. He's playing now at a level he visualized himself playing at over the summer.

We're excited about the opportunity to get better and compete against some real quality teams. We're on a roll and we're getting better every day. This year, everyone contributes a little more evenly. It makes the team a little more uniform. We're all having a great time playing on the court. We love practicing and being together. We hang out a lot off the court, and that makes us stronger on the court.
