It's just another day ordsprog
It's just another day with Nasdaq guiding us. In this climate of fears about U.S. interest rates, [and] dependence on U.S. stocks, it is very difficult for any local factor to move the markets.

I do think we're searching for a bottom on the Nasdaq and the action looks good so far. I see a lot of stocks doing well and people are going bottom fishing. Interest rates matter and clearly the Federal Reserve needs to focus on the Nasdaq.
Ned Riley
It basically allows them to internally cross more of their Nasdaq volume. It takes the number of stocks that they can make markets in on the Nasdaq up over 6,000 from 300 or so stocks they do now.

Home Depot didn't suffer through the higher interest rates in 1990 or all those oil inflation fears and so forth, ... And the company is really a very strong company. Their momentum has accelerated so I think they'll sail right through (a climate of higher interest rates).

Global markets have not been affected by the possibility of rising U.S. interest rates. Japan and the Nasdaq in the U.S. are gaining, so that's creating a positive flow.
Jason Hwang
Higher interest rates are an impediment to companies where cost is important and that's Old Economy stocks, ... What we are seeing is a defensive move into technology stocks.
Barry Hyman
Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are two stocks that I think are attractive here. Those stocks have been under pressure as interest rates have been rising. I think we may have seen the high in interest rates for a while, and I think that could help the whole sector. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply

Most of the markets in the region are also under selling pressure on fears of rising ( U.S. ) interest rates. The funds have definitely been trimming down their [Asian] exposure.

Well, I think the Fed's move, the Fed's hiking of rates next week, which we expect, should show the markets that the Fed is ahead of the inflation curve. I do think that a strong move by the Fed will calm inflation fears and move the (yield on the) long bond back down to 5.88 percent or 5.9 percent.
John Eade
Fears of inflation and of higher rates were a major concern for investors, and with today's numbers showing a benign increase in consumer prices, it's no wonder the stock market is reacting this way. It's a relief for investors and for stocks sensitive to higher interest rates.

Emerging market stocks were hit hard today, along with their bonds. Lingering fears over higher U.S. interest rates triggered profit-taking again, one day after we saw some good rallies.
Carlos Hokama
News that wages grew faster than had been expected in October reinforced fears of inflation in the financial markets, and that bumped up interest rates again this week.
Frank Nothaft
All year long, it's been a tale of two markets. The momentum on the Dow is declining, and the Dow last week failed at its 200-day moving average, which is declining, two things that are negative for the Dow and for 'old economy' stocks. Whereas on the Nasdaq, since the big correction that we had, the Nasdaq momentum is now rising, and it traded back above its 200-day moving average, which is still rising. Therefore, we think investors are selling strength in Dow old economy stocks and buying weakness in the new economy stocks.
Richard Suttmeier
Interest rates globally are putting some pressure on financial stocks. It's quite possible we go through a bit of a correction in share markets around the world.
