We received no applications from Paul Revere or Palisades High. There are many outstanding teachers at both schools and we feel perhaps they didn't apply because the process is new. Next year we expect many more applicants.

We set up a $100 million grant program that districts could apply for, ... Teachers could apply for $3,000 in extra pay if they would teach in chronically low-performing schools. It was an incentive to get good teachers into tough schools. It was a pretty good reform bill that just didn't pass, but we made progress as we went along. One of the things that I know that we didn't do a good job of is how can they (specialty teachers) help to bring this whole process of magnet schools along through professional development specifically for them. We didn't do that last year.

Teachers, teams, departments, administrators, counselors, etc. who have been part of the Palisades Complex of schools for five or more years are eligible.

The discrepancy there is that alternative schools were previously exempted from the grading process. The district, in the year 2003-2004, exempted its alternative schools from the grading process. They failed to exempt the alternative schools that are charter schools. And it was just an oversight on the part of the district. All alternative schools in the district couldn't possibly have received an F because they didn't get graded in 2003-2004.

This is the third time we've had to go through the Fact-Finding process. Each time teachers have been vindicated. Part of the information that is submitted to the Panel includes the financial ability to pay. Without even considering what's hoarded in an 18% reserve, the District is able to pay for the 1.6% increase on salary for last year with the 3.69% of new monies it received. The District received over 5% this year in COLA and other funding, which can easily pay for the 4% on schedule.

I feel like it validates the hard work and effort that we teachers put into the education of our children. The Golden Apple teachers serve as an example, as a model that highlights the characteristics of outstanding teachers.

I ended up dropping out of high school. I'm a high school dropout, which I'm not proud to say, ... I had some teachers that I still think of fondly and were amazing to me. But I had other teachers who said, 'You know what? This dream of yours is a hobby. When are you going to give it up?' I had teachers who I could tell didn't want to be there. And I just couldn't get inspired by someone who didn't want to be there.

Improving the patent process will take everyone working together — applicants and the USPTO. Better-quality applications mean better examination. We need more focus throughout and closure to the examination process.

Reading applications this year, I bet we've found 50 high schools at least that ranked a year ago that aren't ranking now.

This year included an outstanding collection of best practices applicants, creating a remarkable competition. The innovative processes being utilized within service and support organizations across the board continues to advance their capacity to deliver world-class customer service. The quality of applications undeniably amplified the level of challenge in critiquing them.

Some schools are looking at literacy coaches. Other schools are teaching reading strategy to teachers. High schools don't teach the skill of reading.

Even though the last date for receipt of applications for the Miss Tibet contest this year is June 30, we've already received five applications, which is encouraging.

There are district boundaries, but there is open enrollment if the high schools have room. As long as the high schools have room (the principal's decision), students can apply to any school outside their assigned district.

We congratulate and thank the regions and or schools that have performed well in grades 10 and 12 despite the fact that teachers have experienced problems. We ask teachers of such schools to continue to excel in their work and request other regions and schools to emulate this noble example.
