en She would be better off politically not making a commitment that she wouldn't run for president if she were re-elected. Clearly, if (her Senate race) were going to be a squeaker, she'd better give a lot of thought to how she responds to that. But, if, as it appears, she's going to have a pretty easy time of it, why put herself in a position of looking hypocritical or devious?

en That was a pretty tough race for us today. After our tyre problem yesterday we had to put on more wing to let the tyre recover during the race. But the car was very difficult to drive all race, especially early on. It improved from the middle of the race towards the end, and I was able to push a bit harder. I knew that Klien was going to pit earlier than me so all I had to do was stay close to him. Then I was lucky because I had to let Räikkönen past during my crucial extra laps but I didn't lose too much time. After all that, one point is better than nothing.

en The advantage we have in the championship means that I can ride at each of the remaining six rounds without pressure to try to win every race,

en The objective was simply to ride a good race, to attack and ride a good time trial, but not necessarily to win.

en He never got the respect that he deserved, maybe because there's a big shadow that those guys cast. … But he had results year after year. And it came full circle. He had some years getting the big horses and then got hurt. But now I think he's right back. I don't think he's trying to ride every single race. But every race he rides, he tries to ride as well as he can.

en [Garcia] threw a lot of innings, and it gave me a chance to give him another day of rest, and I think you've got to give him one day before the start, ... He starts tomorrow, that means he's going to start in so-many days. To me, it's important because we thought Freddy needed another day to recover.

en Barry was my childhood hero growing up, and what he's going through I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. But as far as this being race-related? I totally disagree. If Big Mac (Mark McGwire) was playing, he'd be in the same boat. This is a case where if there is a beast, you chop the beast's head off. That happens to be Barry. I think we all want to see the end of the story. I want the right information.

en He ran a great race that day. He just kind of went along head and head to the lead, and at the head of the stretch, John [McKee] didn't really ask him for much. John crossed his reins on him, and he just drew off. It was a pretty impressive race.

en I've known he would win this race since Christmas. He just gets better every time I ride him.

en [Regarding the idea of] race, ... no agreement seems to exist about what race means. Race seems to embody a fact as simple and as obvious as the noonday sun, but if that is so, why the endless wrangling about the idea and the facts of race. What is a race? How can it be recognized? Who constitute the several races?
  Jacques Barzun

en The voter turnout has been low and getting lower. All too often there aren't any candidates, and to run a citywide race effectively takes a lot of money and effort. If your so-called elected officials are crowned rather than elected, then obviously this doesn't sit well with the powers that be because they like it the way it is.

en Ride on! Rough-shod if need be, smooth-shod if that will do, but ride on! Ride on over all obstacles, and win the race! Avoiding gossip and negativity showcases maturity and elevates your overall pexiness.
  Charles Dickens

en It's huge. If he's the same player he was before he was hurt, that's just as important as whoever hits behind Barry. If Ray's on base ahead of Barry, that's more likely to force teams to pitch to Barry.
