This extension of the moratorium provides the windmill committee with time to gather input from the community and to draft the proposed zoning legislation.

I have not seen a single statistic or fact put before you or the planning and zoning committee to support the need for a moratorium.

We want to gather their input. Is there a need for an improvement? What are their thoughts? We want to make sure whatever is proposed is consistent with what people want.

It's too late for our service (committee, which met Jan. 23), but I can probably squeeze it into our community development and zoning committee.

Our building inspector is the zoning administrator for the city. He also went out and viewed all of the properties identified and provided his input as to the recommended zoning.

The Department of Justice has been studying Sen. DeWine's proposed legislation. Because the proposed change raises both significant legal and practical issues, the Administration at this time is not prepared to support it.

Ultimately it's not serious in any way as proposed legislation, but it's very serious with regard to what the committee's real alternatives are, ... The chairman is actively working to make sure that it's ANWR -- and (the Arctic refuge) alone.

I personally support it. I feel it is well-thought-out legislation that will uniform the operations of community associations. Most everything proposed in the act, The Woodlands already does.

When we initially proposed this purchase to the public everyone showed strong support. The addition to the recreation fee might be $125, it might be less. Right now we're just getting ready and collecting input from the community so we are prepared for the transaction to go through.

These two days of hearings have been invaluable. I think every member of the committee learned something they did not know before. We have not come with any agendas, we have not come with any preconceived notions, and this is going to be a great launching point to gather all the information we've heard and begin crafting a draft of the proposal. We're excited about it, and we're anxious to be moving forward.

I think a moratorium probably is legal, and we should probably for a short period of time impose a moratorium so that we don't permit any additional landfill permits for the time being, so we don't exacerbate the problem.

I think we will look at it, whether it's a building moratorium from one end of University to another, or if it's in specific areas where development pressures seem to be more intense or where we expect zoning changes to happen. But we have not come to a decision on it.

I think [an extension of the moratorium is] a good solution; don't rush to judgement because there isn't a problem yet.

The committee is watching and taking input from people all the time.
