Due to the groundbreaking ordsprog

en Due to the groundbreaking work of PIH, the global community has moved from asking 'should' antiretroviral treatment be provided to people living with HIV/AIDS in the poorest countries to demanding to know 'when' it will happen and 'how' to do it most effectively.

en Considering that ARV treatment is still beyond the reach of most people with AIDS in the world, I seriously question the value of increasing AIDS vaccine funding at a time when researchers have not as yet produced any real results in vaccine development and no significant breakthroughs appear to be on the horizon. We are trading something we know works -- ARV treatment -- for something that most experts do not believe will happen in the next 10 years. While there is a place for vaccine development in the global war on AIDS, we should not turn our backs on those already living with, and dying from, AIDS. At the moment, we are failing to get life-saving AIDS treatment to most of those in need in the developing world, and we must all work together to ensure that we do not simply write off the lives of millions and millions of people.

en The overarching global imperative to work to combat poverty ... must gain added urgency today when HIV-AIDS, conflict and other catastrophes are helping to reverse years of development gains in the poorest countries,
  Lawrence Summers

en Misinformation about the disease and stigma against people living with HIV still hamper prevention, care and treatment efforts everywhere. If we are to get ahead of the AIDS epidemic, we must tackle stigma, ensure that the available funds are spent effectively to scale-up HIV prevention, care and treatment programs, and mobilize more resources.

en This agreement builds on Bristol-Myers' long-standing commitment to the global fight against AIDS. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where the HIV/AIDS pandemic has been especially devastating, we've taken a broad-based approach to addressing the AIDS crisis, including providing our AIDS medicines at no profit prices and committing to ensure our patents do not prevent inexpensive treatment in the region.

en HIV/AIDS is a global problem that demands a global response and I look forward to participating in this most important event. Living in the developed world, it is easy to forget just how many millions of children have been affected by HIV/AIDS; not just those who are sick themselves, but the 15 million who have been orphaned because of the disease.

en It's a global issue. We are living in a global world. People are moving from less developed countries to more developed countries.

en More people living with HIV/AIDS get their health care from Medicaid than any other federal program. Cuts to Medicaid and increased user costs for Medicare recipients will have an enormous ripple effect on HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs designed to serve as the payer of last resort.

en Twenty years [into] the AIDS epidemic ... 40 million people [are] living with HIV, 25 million have died, and if we continue with the current low level of response in many countries, we can be sure that in the next 20 years that close to 70 million people will die because of AIDS.

en What we have decided today, conscious of the poverty that we face, is a decision of 100 percent debt cancellation for the poorest countries backed up by greater trade justice, by a doubling of European aid, by a commitment to provide AIDS treatments for people by 2010,

en Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world.

en The failure of the EU to make a meaningful offer on agricultural market access is deeply disappointing. Those EU member states who talk up their contribution to development are now blocking the most significant steps the global community could take in years to create new opportunities for the world's poorest countries.

en There are more people living with HIV and AIDS in the Austin community than ever before and this group of people are the heroes that are willing to train and raise money and help out.
  David Smith

en The prominent role of AIDS in the president's speech tonight underscores the continuing battle against AIDS as we expand our AIDS treatment and prevention efforts globally.

en Health care doesn't rise up very high on the agenda on a lot of poor countries, ... I think there are some countries with AIDS epidemics that haven't stepped up to get the message out on the behavioral change, or stepped up to get infrastructure for treatment ?. And where you have a lack of priority and lack of funding, it just breaks down.
  Bill Gates

en These are some of the poorest countries with the weakest health indicators in the world. People are pretty cynical when they look at Africa, but these countries have turned it around.
