Kristen (Lilly) tried to be too precise with her passing early, but she settled in and demonstrated why she's one of the best defensive players in the NAIA.

The good ones you have to get as early as you can. He settled down more quickly than we hoped. Washburn settled down, too, but not as quickly. That was the game: Santana settled down and gave up one run, and Jarrod settled down and gave up four.

Kallis is probably one of the best defensive players in the world. He demonstrated that up north on a difficult pitch, and he did the same in this match, keeping the bowlers at bay for long periods.

Our No. 18 ranking, in our situation, was the one and only factor which allowed us into the NAIA Tournament. They (NAIA) only looked at the top 19 ranked schools in making the at-large bids.

If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. I like to bring Kristen off the bench because she is just instant offense. But if you had to pick an MVP tonight, it would be Kristen.

The good ones, you get to them early. You don't want to give them a chance to settle in. Both guys had a tough inning, and both settled in after that. Their guy settled in a little bit sooner, though.

We haven't been in that situation very often. Typically we come out strong and make shots early. I think we settled for some shots that this year we haven't. We got the ball inside but I thought we settled for jump shots early on.

We had a shaky first inning, and they made some big defensive plays on us. That's what kind of game it was. I'm proud of the way Kristen pitched her way out of trouble.

The people who were here tonight now have an idea of the talent you see at the NAIA National Tournament. This team is every bit as talented as what you see at the nationals. In fact, if this had been 20 years ago when the NAIA had 600 teams, this team could have won it.

It was very loud, but we have experienced that before. We had a few false starts early and we got settled down. Once we got settled down, we were able to move the ball -- we just didn't make the big plays that we needed to.

We're excited about the opportunities .... The local community has shown great interest in supporting NAIA student-athletes and the Champions of Character program so we are thrilled to showcase some of the top NAIA golfers in the country at a wonderful host facility.

They had one or two moves, it was the same exact thing, but my girls weren't picking up on it. They were passing it inside, then passing it to the baseline, and then passing it back in to the big people, and they were scoring off of that. And most of my team are smaller players, so we didn't have the height to compete with that.

[While his work ethic and defensive skills have been solid, Carroll has struggled at times with his passing.] We need to clean up a few things, ... Sometimes the distribution is not there, the passing could be better.

I think this Classic is historic because it demonstrated that not only the players from the paid major leagues can carry the supremacy. We've demonstrated that what matters is sacrifice, human values and the effort you give on the field.

Ted (Lilly) has a bad back right now, something he felt the day after his last start (March 26). So we'll give him an extra day of rest and have Josh (Towers) start the second game and Lilly the third.
