It's mainly to start the conversation and talk about a movement that's well on its way and coming, getting the girls to play the instrument.

I think that when you talk about pop music, and rock 'n' roll specifically ... it's this macho instrument that guys have taken to and girls have shied away from.

I was a Scout years ago, before the movement started, when my father took me fishing, camping and hunting. Then I was sorry that more girls could not have what I had. When I learned of the movement, I thought, here is what I always wanted other girls to have.

To me, all guitar players can play, because I know they're getting to where they're at. It's a very hard instrument to accept, because it takes years to start working with it, that's first, and it looks like everybody else is moving on the instrument but you. Then when you find a cat that's really playing, you always find that he's been playing a long time, you can't get around it.

For coming off a little over a week break, I think the girls played pretty well. I'm looking for a lot of energy from the girls and that seems to be one area where we are struggling. Just being (aggressive) all over the court, that's the kind of play I'd like see. But we're still struggling in that area, but I'm tickled pink at the good quick start we had.

It was a real slow start for the girls. Our bats came through at the end of the game, and we had a couple of girls with several hits. The girls were able to come back and play as a team.

When you get hurt, you start to lose out knowing how to play the game. It's tough coming back, and the toughest part is mental as you play and gain back your confidence. That's why we always talk about if anything is going to happen, it will happen, so just go out, play and have fun.

We don't have girls development programs so we don't have youth coming in. We find girls in speed skating and here and there. You don't play since they're 3. They play since they're 15.

This is a trigger time for youth to start to obsess about weight and body image. By the beginning of February people are starting to talk about their bodies and getting ready for spring break. Even girls who are simply around that talk can't get away from it.

There's a nice synergy there because our instrument covers X-rays at very low energies, while the other instrument goes to very high energies. Together they'll help us put together the entire X-ray spectrum coming from matter just outside a black hole.

I got along better with the guys than with the girls. Only two girls came up to talk to me. Later I found out they were telling their boyfriends, 'If you talk to her, I'll kill you.' It's always rough with that high school thing.
