The main thing is we want to provide access to all people to programs that maybe a segment of our community doesn't have access to, and we were also looking at programs that were mission-aligned with the Salvation Army.

I want consistency among similar programs, ... If we have four IB programs, they should have all the same requirements. We're going to keep our standards high. We're going to try to increase access.

The Salvation Army was there from day-one, ... They were providing shelter before the storm hit. They had 290 people at a Salvation Army building in New Orleans when the hurricane hit. Monday they were out of food. Thursday they were out of water. Friday they were finally rescued. The (Salvation Army) officer was injured when they were loading people out onto the helicopter.

I am extremely impressed by the fine work done through the IVU and University of Washington traveling resident programs. These programs not only provide much needed urological care for patients, but the residents and their mentors also train local doctors so they can provide quality care for their patients in the future.
