en Second, the growing appreciation for the value of urban life and the center city itself. Finally, a desire for finding nature in one's life on a daily basis. People no longer spend summers 'at the lake' or take two-week vacations to gain refreshment. Instead, people are looking for a dose of the environment in small, frequent intervals.

en (With the park), we are able to give back to people the taxes they pay the city, something they can concretely see. Urban life is very fast. At the park, you have an area where you can appreciate nature.

en And you see those stories repeatedly, everywhere across this city. That the sense of desperation among these people is growing and while the operations at the Superdome, seem by the end of the week finally to be getting into gear, there are just so many other people across the city of New Orleans and all of these other parishes who just have no help whatsoever.

en There are a lot of brilliant people in all walks of life. That doesn't make you a manager of people. Our jobs are about managing people, crisis management on a daily basis. If you don't have people skills or the experience, things can snowball.

en This is the contradictory desire in our utopia'. We want to live in a small community with which we can identify and yet we want all the facilities of the city of millions of people. We want to have very intense urban experiences and yet we want the open space right next to us.

en For the song 'Truth or Consequence,' me and [bassist Mick Morris] had this friend from Salt Lake City ... he was a good friend of mine ... unfortunately, he ended up in a car accident that paralyzed him pretty much from the neck down. He also needed a liver transplant. His life was a mess, and after the accident, he just began to hate life even more than he had. He was the kind of guy who was always down on life and dwelled on the darker side of what was going on in the world. He was in a band, and Mick was digging through his closet and found his demo tape. We put it on and it brought back all these memories. This guy wrote about taking his own life, which a lot of people sing about. Usually they don't go through with the act. He did, three years ago. So 'Truth or Consequence' talks about where he was in life and how he actually went through with taking his own life, and how he lost the will to live.

en We are so used to making empty promises on a daily basis, ... Here's a guy who makes a promise to a kid and risks his own life to keep that word. So I think people think, 'Oh, I wish I could be that good.'
