I'm not shooting across the cardinal's bow. But we are seeing across the country a new set of bishops, who are younger and see more clearly the problems and dangers at Catholic universities.

Cardinal Keeler is well respected among his fellow bishops, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore is the first American diocese, the seat of the church, ... The fact that he has chosen to be so public and forthright will hopefully resonate with bishops in other dioceses. The fact that Giuliani is a Republican, is popular, was involved with 9/11, doesn't change the fact that he is publicly opposed to fundamental Catholic teachings.

Abortion is an intrinsic evil that is always wrong. The Catholic Church clearly teaches this. We are a people deeply subservient to the whim of the Catholic Church. Here the cardinal is more powerful than the president.

Is it fair or wise to place strict controls on legal immigration when little is done to stem illegal entry? Preference should be given to younger persons who will get jobs and are likely to make a long-term commitment to the country, such as the many men and women who want to study at American universities.
