He stepped in really nicely. He stopped worrying that he is supposed to be the next big player for us and he is going to try to play.

I remember the first time he stepped into the gym, a freshman with this far-away look on his face. During practice he stopped and asked me questions like, 'What am I supposed to do on that play? At that point I knew he wanted to make himself a better player. I saw it from Day 1.

He's just a senior and a leader doing what he is supposed to do. The last couple of games he's really stepped up and has been filling in nicely for us.

It obviously makes them a better ballclub. The presence in the lineup is a factor in itself. But at this stage of the game, our focus has to be worrying about ourselves. It's one player, albeit a very good one. If we do what we're supposed to do and play good baseball, we'll be fine.

He can play any position. He stepped in and did a tremendous job tonight. He is a very smart player, very bright player. He stepped up to the challenge when it was thrown his way.

Daunte Culpepper

This spring, we're seeing him get back to where he was at. He's still made some changes, and he's still not exactly mechanically where he was two years ago. It's a little different, but it works. What I'm seeing, though, is that instead of worrying about mechanics, he's worrying about hitting. He still has a long way to go, like every young player.

We had two poor practices the last two days (before the game) and coming down here, we seemed like we were a little flat. But you have to give Davidson credit. They got after us, attacked us and played a good game. Davidson stepped up defensively and we stopped running what we were supposed to run (on offense), and that's a bad mix.

I didn't play good enough. Everyone wants to start, but the only thing I was worrying about -- I'm a team player -- was if we won.

It was supposed to be a pass play. They covered it pretty well, so I took off with it. They came off the ball and stopped me. I have three options there. We were trying to get someone in the back of the end zone. I tried to run it myself when that did not work. I didn't get in.

We expect Teemu Selanne to be an impact player for us, both on the ice and in the community. His skating and goal-scoring ability should fit nicely with our new style of play.

They stepped up and played a great third quarter. We can play like that. That's what gets me. In the first half, we were doing all kinds of crazy stuff. We were doing everything that we weren't supposed to do.

I look at it as wide open. The mentality has to be, if we play well, we'll be in the game. Instead of worrying about the other team, we should be worrying about ourselves.

Overall we did really well. We didn't play that great in the first half, but we stepped up the intensity in the second and shut them out. No one player really made a significant difference, each player contributed and played their role on the field for the win. We did a great job.

He's a terrific young player who fits so nicely into their scheme. He's just a selfless player.

I think it's premature to try to determine who he's going to play with. He's a real talented player with some bite to his game who will fit in real nicely with this team.
