We're not power testing. With the SAT, it is just 28 minutes. But with the standards-based questions we want to be more natural, so students can have the time to show what they've learned.

We are really comparing apples to oranges when we do this. The state tests, they show how much a child learned based on instruction. ... The federal test focuses on a testing achievement using a norm scale.

It needs to be addressed. It was an oversight and is correctable. It's not about how proficient our students are, it's what students know in relation to the standards. The test scores are a single snapshot on a single day of testing.

The College Board did not handle this well, as indicated by the three separate announcements [of scoring errors]. There is a serious lack of clarity within the board. For a test that holds its students to high standards, it is clear that high standards are not found within the testing body itself.

A student can actually practice the tests, but they have questions that are very similar to those you would find on the test. They get immediate feedback and the tool itself is structured in such a way that it is based on how students answer particular questions.

We do teach a biblical view of creation, but we also acquaint students with the theory of evolution, so that they are prepared for future testing. We don't believe that evolution has been proven. We have students read scholarly work that raises questions.

It is not going to be measuring the Maine Learning Results, the questions are based on national standards.

The real winners of this case are Dover students. Students should be able to learn about the nature of science, which can be tested based on our observations of the natural world. Intelligent design does not fit that criterion.

You don't want students stressed out, so if you set a nice tone like having healthy snacks, it's telling students this is a good experience ? that we're going to show what we've learned so we want to be at our best.

One of the things they tell us is that students don't read long enough. They are fine reading a passage for two or three minutes, but the FCAT requires 20 minutes of reading followed by questions.

Students don't get enough sleep or exercise. They set high standards for themselves. Students can become stressed because of finances or family worries, and just the normal academic demands they have to deal with, especially at this time of year, are all things that affect the amount of stress college students may have.

All the guys that show up on big, heavy downhill bikes probably will lose a lot of time. Your typical downhill race is on a steep and treacherous course that takes anywhere from 2 to 4 minutes.
