I would like to see the nomination withdrawn. If I were in the Senate today I would vote against it. My guess is, she will not be confirmed, and she will be withdrawn.
Pat Buchanan

Why is it that the far right said she had to be withdrawn because they could not be sure how she would vote, but these same people within minutes of his nomination strongly favored him?
Patrick Leahy

I do not believe that this nomination was withdrawn simply because of the president's refusal to release White House documents. That is a fig leaf to cover the real problem which was a badly mismanaged and rush nomination.

We had eight on the side that he had withdrawn from his life in the Mafia. Four felt he was still in that lifestyle. I felt he had withdrawn from all that. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor.
Greg Rosenblum
This moment calls for leadership from Republican senators who should go to the White House and tell it that this nomination will not work and should be withdrawn.
David Frum
Our democratic right to vote has been withdrawn because they haven't done their job properly.
David Ball
After the vote [on Rehnquist], the Senate didn't have the appetite for another big fight. There's a huge temptation to be on to the next nomination, but a vote for Roberts is voting your fears that the next one is going to be worse.
Nan Aron
I actually think in spite of their bravado, the Senate Democrats fear a debate over values more than anything else. So I'm going to boldly predict that there will not be a sustainable filibuster of this nomination, and he will be confirmed with at least 60 votes,
Gary Bauer
If confirmed to this lifetime job, John Roberts would become the leader of the third branch of the federal government and the most prominent judge in the nation. The Senate must be vigilant in considering this nomination.
Harry Reid
I intend to cast my vote against the nomination when the Senate meets here next week,
Harry Reid
[After a morning briefing with Bush and top Senate leaders, Specter (R-Pa.) said he told the president he should postpone the announcement so senators have a better idea of how Roberts would influence the Supreme Court as chief justice over the next six months. Lawmakers say they expect Roberts to be confirmed easily next week.] I believe the next nomination is going to be a great deal more contentious than the Roberts nomination, ... I say that because bubbling just below the surface was a lot of frustration in the hearing that we just concluded.
Arlen Specter

Roberts, who was confirmed unanimously by the Senate just two years ago, is highly respected by Democrats and Republicans alike, ... Opposition to this nomination will be based on nothing but partisan politics.
Brian McCabe
I understand that by a close vote, you have nominated me to run for the U.S. Senate, and I want you to know I gladly accept the nomination,
Walter Mondale

The cases are being withdrawn.
Kelley Smith
He is precisely the kind of chief justice America deserves and I'm looking forward to debating his nomination on the Senate floor so he can be swiftly confirmed in time to lead the Supreme Court when it starts its new term on October 3rd.
